Anfield hero lauds Hodgson: Wouldn't have happened with Benitez

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has praised Roy Hodgson for getting the best out of Ryan Babel and David Ngog, suggesting the aforementioned duo’s recent revival would not have happened under Rafael Benitez.

Lawrenson believes Hogdon’s affable and approachable demeanor has led a to better line of communication between the manager and the club’s peripheral players, and their performance against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Monday night, was evidence of the Anfield chief’s man-management.

The Anfield hero suggests Babel and Ngog were all but confined to the scrapheap at the end of Benitez’s reign and therefore the former Fulham boss deserves great credit for their eye-catching form.

The Match of the Day pundit told the Liverpool Echo: "It’s taken a bit of time but it seems that Roy Hodgson’s message is getting through and all his work on the training ground is starting to pay off.

"With Torres away at the birth of his second child, David Ngog and Ryan Babel were handed the chance to form an alternative strike partnership and their performances showed that there is now good competition for places.

"A few months ago, Babel was probably drinking in the last chance saloon at Anfield while Ngog is getting better even though there was a lot of improvement to be had.

"Their upturn in fortunes could be down to having a manager who is very approachable and talks to his players on a regular basis.

"This wouldn’t have happened in the last six months of Rafael Benitez’s reign with the Spaniard having made up his mind over several players."

              Unbelievable.......................words fail me.
Hodgson is like some kind of svengali over his mates in the media/old pros.

I'm sure Lawro was singing the praises of Babel and Ngog 6 months ago too.

Weren't they failed Benitez signings at that point?
                      Oh I don't know.

How on earth was Ngog on the scrapheap? If anything Benitez overplayed him last season (for various reasons, which we don't need to revisit).

Are you replying to my post?

I'm stating the approximate media position of the past, and trying to highlight the hypocrisy.
