    Is it fair to say...

If we finish 4th or win the Europa League this season, sacking Hodgson in the summer would be extremely harsh ?

I know you like to think outside the box, but you're taking it to silly levels now.

No. Because long term i think he'll hold us back anyway, he's just not imo the one who'll lead Liverpool to glory, sure 4th place great to be back in Europe proper, but i'd still have little confidence he could actually win the Champions league once qualified, or the Premiership.

It's fair to say we don't need a new thread for this.
        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

If Bodge gets us into CL places, it wouldn't be too dissimilar to what Houllier did in his last season with us (5th the season before). It was time for a new manager then, we'll still need a new one at the end of ths season. There would be absolutely no reason to keep him on, other than the sentimental (ie he deserves it).

Well, life is harsh. We just need to do what's best for the club.

Hodgson is highly unlikely to achieve something this season to cause me to have a dramatic rethink about whether he is the right man for us long term. Neither 4th place nor a UEFA cup win would do that for me, at least not unless either was in a very convincing manner. Ultimately, as with all hiring/firing decisions it would depend on whether the alternative turns out to be better or not.

Considering we finish 7th in Rafa's last season and have won **** all in the last three years, I think finishing 4th or lifting a trophy under Hodgson would be MASSIVE achievement.

I don't actually think he'll manage to do either, just wondered what it would take for fans to give Hodgson another season.

so what if he wins the Europa cup ffs. He nearly did that with Fulham.

and if he gets 4th he still gets sacked for talking bollocks and signing pfk and poorsen.

He should still go cos never in a million years will he win either the champions league or the premier league with Liverpool and winning those trophies are what we exist for.

4th place is a mere stepping stone to greatness, not an achievement in itself

I'll worry about it if it happens.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I'm not so convinced about 4th being such a big achievement. We competed for it for most of last season and the defenses in the league this year are worse.

If Roy won something I might have to review my opinion about his tactics. I don't imagine he will achieve either objective though.

Overall, I think Neil has the right idea on this one.

I think we may very well win the Europa League, that will see Roy keep the job regardless of league position.

I'm frankly terrified at the thought of another season of Hodgson, my passion for football is dwindling heavily. I get absolutely no pleasure from it anymore, win or lose.

he's just not the future of this club.
