Purslow admitted they were no closer to a takeover

A week or so later we had two bids on the table and a court case to fight

          Heres another one from RAWK

Good OP and enjoyed reading through the thread - not sure why its morphing into a next manager thread though….

Anyway two penneth hopefully building on what’s been discussed

They re-iterated they’ve only been around 8 weeks and they were clueless when they came in. Think this is misleading – they may want to appear like the new boys on the block and buy themselves time by giving that impression but they appear up to speed and savvy in more areas than I expected.

8 weeks to find a CEO, is not really a great deal of time especially when most will have 3 or 6 months notice periods to serve once you’ve found them. However I’m not sure why the hunt for a CEO could not have started in May – the idea that they were going to spend 300 million but not know who was going to run the business is a bit above my pay grade to understand. Likewise only bringing in head hunters weeks into their ownership if they didn’t have a clue – I guess the person they had in mind may have bailed but it’s not great business.

Another thought was that when the CEO comes in one good thing for him would be to bin a very unpopular manager – gets him brownie points straight away – maybe they are just saving up the good news………

One area where their lack of experience could present a problem is the manager. They know they can’t be knee jerk and they know most fans are. They know they can’t be seen to act on every result and stability is important and that fans are impatient. What clearly presents a problem is when the knee jerk reaction is actually correct, that in reality things are that bad, Without the experience to understand it they need to rely on stats and the opinion on others – that’s an uncomfortable place to be.

Having said that JH made it clear that Hodgson has been read his fortune – his statement that we looked to be improving but the Newcastle game was unacceptable and the way it was discussed implies Roy was told probably last time they were over and before the Chelsea game that we needed to pick up or else he’s out. If that is true then it implies he’ll be here until the summer provided results are ok anything else and he’ll be gone. Of course that stick is only any use if they have somebody to replace him with………..

I think everybody is surprised how poorly Roy has done – their ideal scenario would have been for Roy to see out the season with a safe pair of hands, nothing spectacular or bad but maybe a 5th or 6th place finish with European football and a decent cup run. Then ease him out the door, once they had completed their research and found the right man, with a thank you but we are changing direction. There would have been less pressure on finding a CEO or re-structuring the club – his inability to deliver is causing them grief and I think(hope) they’ve needed to accelerate their plans as a result.

Something else struck me which was JH concerns about player contracts – it’s the 2nd time he’s raised it but the first time he’s said it was almost a deal breaker. We have far too many old players on very lucrative contracts – Carragher is merely one example, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Aurelio, Konchesky, Poulsen, Kyrgiakos, Cole,Jovanovic - most of them it must be said very recent decisions. It greatly restricts fsg’s options in re-modelling the club as JH emphasised when he spoke about not only the large wage bill but the need for that wage bill to stay huge for several years. He clearly understands that fading, underperforming players on large contracts are just going to sit tight and will be very difficult to move on. I can see us taking several hits trying to get those guys out of the door over the next year or so.

I’ve missed Gerrard off the list because I think he’ll be top class for a couple of years yet but he will need to change his game if he’s genuinely going to earn his massive salary for the duration of his contract.

It was also clear that players are commodities to JH – they are just a business assets –that is right from a business perspective but it’s also quite chilling. It also suggests that there will be significant business input into all transfers in and out.

Also seemed to be clear that although Tom Werner is the Chairman JH is in charge, cunningly disguised as consensus maybe but ic never the less.

Kenny’s more significant role and its link to Comolli – not sure where that’s going? Beckenbauer has dipped into management a couple of times I think they could do worse than follow that model but The Kaiser was more versed in the football bull****/red tape than Kenny.

Ian Ayre came across well he didn’t pretend to be a football manager, he blocked when he needed to and spoke reasonably well about what he did know about. He clearly has significant interests and connections in Asia and his results speak for themselves. Hopefully he’s just like it says on the tin the commercial director, low profile just there to get in the cheques.

Did think his comment that Kirby is a very large site and Melwood sometimes overcrowded may be an indication that actually we ditch Melwood and co-late in Kirby – would seem to make sense from a business perspective and if many ex-players are to be believed from a player development perspective as well.

He's here for the rest of the season, i said so on that thread a while back, asking us to predict when he'll be sacked, and i've seen nothing to change my mind.
what happened to your bet on him being the first to be fired??

"To do something, that sometimes in the past the club have made decisions which were focussed on a nice PR bounce"

This is 100% in reference to Joe Cole in my opinion.

The same situation as at the start of the 2004-05 season when we sacked Houllier and replaced him with Rafa. Many players with big contracts that we couldn't get rid off so we had to loan them out for and in some cases even pay a part of the wages. Took a couple of years to get rid of players like Diao, Cisse, Le Tallec, Pongolle, Diouf, Biscan, Baros, Vignal, Cheyrou, Traore etc.....

Yeah, I would imagine Carra too but not sure about Hodgson, where is the PR boost there?

I remember this Sky advert all over the TV, billboards and Internet (not sure it's the exact pic but had a tag line like "Sky, keeping you up to date with all the breaking news" and then some pic of Cole and Hodgson at the PC):

Hodgson is an English manager that the club knew would get an easier ride.

That he is English is the only reason to why he got the job IMO. A foreign manager never had a chance.
