Do you want Rafa back?

Maybe, but with the team we had for large parts of Rafa's reign we were the better side on paper in 90% of matches we played. I think his fear of losing is deeply ingrained and will override everything else unless we're in a situation where we have nothing to lose by attacking - point in case being the end of ther 08/09 season where we went balls out in attack as we tryed to claw back United's lead at the top. By then it was too late though the damage had been done from earlier draws against **** teams at Anfield.Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostYep, understood. I'm just wondering whether that was the case because he didn't feel utterly confident in his team's attacking ability (to cover defence as well). If he felt confident about his team's ability to cover their arse whilst attacking I am sure he would put put a very attacking team. I suppose the question is whether such a team is actually just a fantasy.
This issue came to a head for me when we went to a struggling, newly promoted Wolves last season, played for, and seemed pleased with a draw.A humble guy with healthy desire.

He persisted in playing two holding midfielders in home games against inferior opposition when a more attacking formation could have won ( and also could have lost) those matches. proof for me that he set out not to lose games.Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostI suppose you have to ask yourself the question as to whether you think Rafa wants to play that sort of footbal or felt he had to in order to get results? I think the answer is plainly the latter. He loves football, he doesn't love it because **** tactics can make it dull, does he?
Also loads of baffling substitutions ala taking Torres off when we played Birmingham (the day Stevie shook his head in disbelief)"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."

I'm pretty surprised at the results so far. Although its a small sample of the forum. I expect it to be a split of 60% - 40%. I wonder what the feeling is elsewhere.
I have a contradictory opinion. I think Kenny should have been given the chance before Roy. But I don't want Rafa back as we should move on. Fools talk.

I am not surprised. We are having a nightmare with a **** manager and someone asks whether you want a better manager instead....
Put a dozen top managers (including rafa) in a poll and ask who should replace Roy and there is no way 11 of them would get 30% of the vote between them.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Yes, well in fairness I found that annoying too.Originally posted by Jack D Rips View PostHe persisted in playing two holding midfielders in home games against inferior opposition when a more attacking formation could have won ( and also could have lost) those matches. proof for me that he set out not to lose games.

Wot Shaggy said.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI've voted yes but in my heart of hearts I accept it may not be for the best. So many divisions, so much baggage. But ultimately I trust him, I rate him and ideally I want him running my football team. Under Rafa I felt we could beat anyone in Europe, and we often did. I want those days back.

I know, his transfer dealings were ****ing terrible, remind me, how much money did he recoup for our then owners?Originally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostI'll also say - given his disastrous dealings in his last two seasons here I do not trust him in the transfer market.

Please, not the 'net spend' etc debate again like brain dead idiots? Do you think people ignore the financial situation before they post such an opinion, like they've been living on the moon or something? We're all adults who've been over the old ground and then formed opinions having factored in such considerations. Well most of us.Originally posted by Darth Marty View PostI know, his transfer dealings were ****ing terrible, remind me, how much money did he recoup for our then owners?
