I doubt Ferguson and his crew needed any stoking. In fact, he'd been sniping all season and it was only getting worse as we were a threat.

The impact of Benitez's list press conference is greatly overestimated I think. However I think he mishandled how to present his case in that PC - he needed to use humour and derision rather than controlled and justified anger and rational argument.

It's much the same as talking to our own Dane Perkins.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Problem with ranting about Fergie is that on the whole you're doing it to his biggest fans i.e. the journo's, quite a bit of backlash in the press and I think it unsettled the team which was all it needed for them to grab the lead and keep it, whether it's over-estimated or not that looking at results and the resulting back-lash from the journo's appeared to happen.

Taking a look back at the results that season, my goodness we were a good side, we really were!

I think that looking at all the facts regarding Rafa's track record with owners i dont think NESV are going to touch him with a barge pole.
Jacques Brel is alive and well and playing at Anfield

          Agree with this.

Given Rafa's capacity for incisive one liners it's perhaps surprising that he didn't play it the way that you suggest.

I agree, I'd love Rafa back - it's not going to happen though.

Deschamps have the same "problem". If he doesn't like what is going on then he will tell the media all about it to get the support he needs.

if NESV are as straight forward and above board as they claim to be(going by their record with the red socks that seems the case) then i'm sure there would be no hassle's with rafa.

He does get stroppy though when people give him the runaround ie H&G, Parry etc.

Perhaps, he doesn't have a history with the club already though does he.

My only problem with Rafa was that he was unable to keep players spirits up when it became clear that a title challenge was out the question. He should have been capable of doing enough to get 4th last year.

As for over £30m on a right back and an injured midfielder - crazy.
                        Forwards.......

I would hazzard a guess that those two signings had more to do with accounting reasons over anything else. Johnson to recoup Crouch monies from Portsmouth, and Aqu for a tiered repayment structure.

                            In todays mirror-

Reina also spoke highly of former manager Rafa Benitez, suggesting that his departure last summer could be a motivating factor for his own disappearing act:

'Rafael Benitez was an essential person for this club and the reason I came to Liverpool,' he said

I hope the owners are listening to this.

i'd love to know who would and wouldn't want him back among the present squad, too many rumors and half truths going around to make a realistic guess.
