I'd sack Roy and bring someone in until the summer as this season was a right off anyway.

Hmm, I'm not sure it ever really was a realistic prospect. We managed 7th last year and we had a better squad (i.e. Mascherano), one of the best managers in the world and Spurs, Arsenal and Man City were weaker (I recognise Chelsea and Manchester Utd were stronger but we were at best competing for third last season).

Set against that was the possibility of replacing Hodgson with someone who may not have done notably better, was a short-term replacement and hence a destabilising influence, plus the likely problems caused by Hodgson's failure not being beyond dispute. I really don't think it was as simple a decision as is being made out.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

        the replacement isn't available.

        what about kenny?

they don't want him as a manager.

        then they're cunts.

        no they aren't.

there. can we close the thread now, and just quote this post a few times a day so everyone knows where we are without arguing about the same three points for hours and hours every day? please?

          Really?

Wins at home to Sunderland, Blackpool and Wolves are more than realistic in my eyes - and would have had us 4 points off 4th.

I see the logic and it looks appealing but look at the team, look at the squad. We're simply not that good I think.

Still, maybe I've become conditioned by the Silver Squirrel's appalling negativity.

              You never change do you.

I should have remembered you need everything spelling out in its entirety. I was saying your impatience for action is nothing new is it were managers are concerned. I'm sure you could recycle some of last years posts.

What I am saying is that a knee jerk reaction of getting an instant replacement wont necessarily give us the best manager and there is no-one at the club that can fill a caretaker role. Read my first post if your thinking of Dalglish. So I would rather they take their time and get the right man for the long term.

I think you have And perhaps the media's too.

8 of the 14 from wednesday night battered Madrid 4-0. The team is good enough to challenge for 4th and certainly good enough to be winning those 3 home games i listed.

                  Going personal, nice touch.

Instant replacement?? He's been making us **** for over 4 months.

As for caretakers....Kenny, Thommo, Rafa....i'm sure that between this trio, we'd find one who would take it and do a better 'babysitting' job.

You could be right. Even taking that into account, it still looks to me a bit of a long shot though over the course of a season (injuries, form, etc.) and it still doesn't counter the other points about getting rid of him sooner than necessary from a long-term perspective. It's a guess either way - yours is more positive but also more frustrating.

Given where we are now, I think he can do very little more damage as long as we don't get involved in the relegation fight. Other than that, the one lingering doubt I had was that any recovery might see NESV give him an extension beyond May but there is no doubt now that is not going to happen.

So with one of those two conditions satisfied and the other assumed, if getting the right bloke in means Hodgson hanging around like a bad smell until May then it wouldn't be so disastrous (or a pit of ****, a gaping wound or anything else ).

You do that gerbin - for the lack of being able to tell me why none of those three would make a better temporary manager than keeping roy.

I should've also pointed out that my view of being good enough to challenge for 4th is largely due to the poor nature of the league this season. Under normal circumstances, maybe 4th would be beyond our sqaud. Although i still think a challenge wouldnt be beyond us, with a quality manager.

As for how much damage he could still do - perhaps you're right. I do think the Hodgson episode will end up costing us Torres though, which IMO, is a disaster.

                          Comment

Yes, if we'd appointed a top manager or kept Benitez then maybe Torres wouldn't have lost interest. It's still possible of course but I agree it looks very unlikely. I think he's gone whatever happens now.

Obviously the **** up was appointing Hodgson in the first place (and arguably getting rid of Benitez but let's not go into that). But I'm not sure sacking him a matter of a few weeks ago (which really is the very earliest NESV could have done it) would have made any difference.

Now the only realistic prospect of keeping Torres is if he is blown away by whoever is the new manager. Even that's an outside chance of course but at this stage it just means getting the right man in is more important than getting the wrong man out.

IMO, he should've been sacked after piddly blackpool turned us over at Anfield.

Shocking result combined with 'he wasnt our appointment' would've been easily justification enough.

                                1. Hodgson
                                2. The current owners.

Surely you mean Hodgson & the previous owners? It's not like NESV spent the last three and a half years bleeding us dry. We're only where we are because we've been heading that way financially since G&H took over, and on the out h since the end of the 08/09 season.
