simply making the point that pepe is so top notch at what he says that he puts the other two to shame thats all. praising him for saying what true captains and leaders who love a club would say.

I have no idea why it puts the other two to shame - Carragher and Gerrard's futures arent being speculated about, so why would they need to come out and say something similar?

Arn- honestly, what is your issue with Gerrard??

The man has carried our team, almost on his own...he might not be the most perfect human being, as you sarcastically say, but he IS the most perfect footballer i could ever wish for as my captain.

Everybody is entitled to their opinions, but yours on Gerrard and Carra, are simply crazy??

Are you sure you're not a bitter or scum?

              This is a LFC thread??

it's all a bit bizarre really, SG is right up there with the best players to have ever worn the shirt - fact!

He's got his flaws, but who doesn't hey - tell you what every side in the league would still love to have Gerrard at their club as would most supporters.

As the thread is about Pepe, what can you say about the man? He's just pure class, he really is

i'm trying to think of a good analogy for how i feel about gerrard.

                    i'll try this:

gerrard is like a miracle cure for cancer or something. came along, saved us all, did an incredible, miraculous thing.

only the raw materials for it are limited. and there have already been a few shortages. so now, it's important to find some other source, or look at another way to make the cure that's going to remain viable into the future, and hopefully, once it's been developed, be as successful as the treatment it's replacing, or more so if possible.

a historic, and amazing thing, our gerrard, but his consistency problems means we've got to be looking ahead and wondering who's going to be orchestrating this team into the future. i appreciate everything gerrard's done for us, and that a hell of a lot.

but some day it's obviously going to be time to move on, and it's always getting closer.

Pepe's a ****ing legend. End of ****ing story. He's come from Spain to this cold part of the world, he's a red through and through, he talks ****ing volumes of sense, he's a proper fan, he's a diamond geezer, he rallies the troops, he does it for us, he does it for Spain. He hurts big-time. He'd never EVER entertain leaving this club (his contract), he's signed a super-long deal and regardless of whether ****ing diarrhea shat all over the North for years on end, he'd still stay. A ****ing legend if ever there was one.

                      Cue Captain Fantastic:

Steven Gerrard has told Liverpool he wants to leave Anfield after turning down a new £100,000-a-week contract.

The 25-year-old captain made his move after Liverpool rejected a £32m bid from Premiership champions Chelsea.

"Steven has told us he will not accept our offer of an improved and extended contract because he wants to leave," a Liverpool club statement read.

Gerrard also issued a statement which said: "This has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make."

He added: "I fully intended to sign a new contract after the Champions League final, but the events of the past five to six weeks have changed all that.

We have done our best, but he has made it clear he wants to go
                      Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry

"I have too much respect for the club and people at it to get involved in a slagging match."

Reports from Anfield suggest the club will not allow Gerrard to leave until he has submitted a formal transfer request.

Gerrard delivered the news to Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry via his agent, Struan Marshall.

And Parry reflected: "The club has to be bigger than any individual. It's the ups and downs of football.

"Now we have to move on. We have done our best, but he has made it clear he wants to go and I think it looks pretty final."

The Anfield chief was left disappointed after Gerrard's decision to leave, just a year after persuading the midfielder that the club could match his ambitions.

"We sat down with him last summer and we understood his frustrations - it was all to do with perceived lack of success.

"We said 'stick with it and see what we achieve', and we thought we achieved quite a lot. What better sign is there that the club is going in the right direction (than winning the Champions League)?

"He wanted success, and presumably felt he would get success elsewhere - it is our job to prove him wrong.

"I did say to him 'think of Istanbul, think of the fans'."

Gerrard has two years left on his current contract which is worth a reported £60,000 per week.

He was in talks with the club to extend that deal by a further two years until Monday when his agent announced that negotiations were ending and were "unlikely to be re-opened".

That apparently came because Gerrard felt his boyhood club had not placed enough of a priority on the talks.

Later on Monday Gerrard had a meeting with chief executive Parry and chairman David Moores, who made a last-ditch offer of £100,000-per-week to keep their captain at Anfield.

They were told he would go away and sleep on the deal - but he told Parry on Tuesday he wanted to leave.

By then Chelsea had already made their offer - which is now set to become only the start of a bidding war between the London club and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Madrid confirmed their interest on Tuesday but said he would have to put in an official transfer request before they got involved.

Gerrard's confirmation that he did indeed want out would be sure to bring the Bernabeu club to the negotiating table.

The previous British record buy was set at £29.1m when Manchester United bought Rio Ferdinand from Leeds in 2002.

Parry added: "I don't imagine it is just going to be one club bidding for Gerrard.

"It is only one day, although one day makes a big difference in negotiations, as we have seen."

Yeah, and then the next day he came out and said he couldnt do it. Do we know what happened after Istanbul? Do we know what the club did or didnt do to make gerrard feel as though he was wanted, or not wanted? Have you read his book? Fact is, we werent there and we dont know. The most important issue is he stayed.

Some people need to grow up. Who wouldnt be human enough to consider moving? Do people really think the thought's never crossed Reina's mind? I'm sure it has, but he doesnt want to go, which is great.

i just find it a bit puzzling that its Pepe who you can count on for no holds barred public loyalty - the true liverpool spirit as the title says. and fair ****s to him for that. i compare him to carra and stevie as they're the local lads whove been idolised (rightly) for years havent they? allegedly we need more local lads as they get the club/league/lfc history etc etc and will give that bit extra right? apparently not necessarily.

again hats off to pepe for showing the true liverpool spirit. and to other leaders, we need more of it please.

I know what you mean mate, but he's responding directly to speculation over his future - and the other two havent got such speculation. It'd be a bit odd if they randomly came out and said "Oh by the way, even though nobody has mentioned moving, i can confirm i am staying"

In fact, there was talk of Gerrard's future back in the summer - and he came out and quashed it at the start of the season, same as Torres did.

far too much guess work goes on sometimes, if you're not in the room when things are happening everything is either 2nd or 3rd hand info or guess work.
