          football tactics say that when you are defending you make the pitch as narrow as possible. however, when you attack make the pitch as wide as possible.

          This basically means that any team that plays 2 out and out wingers will get panned because they;re not strong enough defensively. play with one winger and one wide midfield player who can defend, run, pass, score and create chances for the others. The other guys main job is to create and score goals.

          hodgson plays so narrow because it makes you stronger defensively but pretty rubbish going forward.
