No one could have done a good job at Newcastle, the club's a joke. Always has been.

anyone got a good handle on what went wrong for him at newcastle?

I posted about this earlier.

The squad was being dismantled as it had been shown up as not being very good. The defence was a shambles and he tried to bolster it by bringing in younger players with potential (Carl Serrant being the figurehead of this - utter disaster).

Shearer was badly injured, Ferdinand was sold, Beardsley had retired, Asprilla was patchy and moody (apart from the Barcelona CL game where he and Newcastle were awesome) and Jon Dahl Tomasson was the big, youg much vaunted signing, who was pushed up front into a central striker's role he didn't know how to play (he was a Litmanen behind the main striker type).

Kenny tried to compensate and turned to players he knew - Ian Rush came in and John Barnes - years past their best.

Geordies forget he took them to second in the PL and two FA Cup Finals. They just never took to him on the whole because he wasn't Keegan. He played it a bit more safe and pragmatic. It didn't work - they revolted and he was sacked. Sensible geordies saw what he was trying to do, but the masses weren't happy.
