I don't think his distribution is suspect at all, i can see why people would criticise him for sometimes giving away silly free kicks/mis-judging long balls and things like that but i don't think his distribution is a problem.Originally posted by Rich View PostHis distribution is suspect, always has been. That said I do take your point that at times he's looked like a right beast at the back for us.
What both he and Agger appear to lack however is real on-the-pitch presence, a captain even if he doesn't have the armband. Now out of the two of them I'd prefer Agger in the team, so for me that leaves the right hand side of the partnership available to be improved.
Yeah i can see what you're saying about a lack of an organiser between Skrtel and Agger, but to be fair we've rarely seen them together for a lengthy period of time. In fact i can't remember them being paired together once aside from the United game - would be interesting to know how many games it is.
That's fine if you'd rather Agger than Skrtel but as has been the case since he's joined - Agger can't be fully relied upon due to his injury record.

I'd sign Gary Cahill if I could. Good on the ball and in the air and has a good passing ability. Quality player who is getting better. He also has good pace and doesn't get burned by many for pace. He's probably the best all round option out there, but probably wouldn't come cheap.
He can definitely still improve, but he'd walk into our first team and as he's a young lad you expect him to still be a little wet behind the ears. Him alongside Agger would be superb. Carra and Skrtel in reserve and bye bye Soto.
Wilson I think can replace Carra who would have one or two more seasons as being suitable back up. Wilson is a left footer so would cover Agger, Skrtel is a right footer and covers the right footed Cahill.
That said, Cahill looks odds on to join the Gunners atm. We'd have to move fast if and when Bolton sign Wheater.Forwards.......

ThisOriginally posted by Marsh View Posti dont think it is top priority but i do think its something that needs to be looked at soon.
i think we have too many players in important positions that are injured. the fact that the same players are of the more technically gifted players makes it more important.
i mean
agger
aurellio
and torres
The summer will do, we have more pressing needs right now.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Absolutely. CB is his natural position and it would be nice to see him gradually phased into that role.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostAs has been mentioned elsewhere, i'm pretty sure Kelly could become a very reliable (and eventually first choice) CB for us.
The problem is, given GlenJo's performances of late, we might need him for RB
I'd look to buy someone who can play RB and CB. By doing that, you have added another CB to the squad, but also freed up Kelly to play CB if needed (or even LB), plus you potentially free up Johnson for the much-discussed but as yet never tried RM position.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I guess it depends where the manager sees the immediate futures of Kelly and Wilson, at centre back or continuing at full back for a couple more years, until they have more experience.
I can see Kyriakos moving on in the summer, now if the manager is confident in on of Kelly Wilson or Ayala stepping up we might not need to bring in another centre back, but in my opinion we'd have to see them play more first team football if that is to happen. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'd agree with that, it's balanced. I also think that two of the four CB's should be comfortable on the ball a'la Agger and the two should be the no-nonsense type a'la Carragher as in tough tackling but with a little less hoof.
I'd also agree with Rich re Skrtel as in we should be looking for better and I would also let him go without a great deal of thought if we found better.

Skrtel for me would be a handy back up if our first choice CB's were out.
He makes too many errors on distribution, pretty poor in the air and surprisingly not as strong as he looks, too many times I've seen him out-muscled when you feel he shouldn't be.
I'd like to see a strong organiser at the back next to Agger if possible, problem being these don't come cheap!

Not sure why Rudo rates him so highly TBH. Must be a lovechild or something.

Skrtel is only a squad player for LFC IMO. Rash, clumsy, bad on the ground and terrible in the air for such a big guy, bit lightweight too IMO. Would take Gary Cahill over Skrtel any day. In almost every game i've seen Skrtel play he is blessed not to give a penalty away, all hands and elbows and does some seriously brain dead stuff, always a banker to do something silly.
Someone mentioned Luiz, looks outstanding but never ever come to us, too expensive and too much competition for us to land him. Mertesacker i'm not sold on for the Premier League, but is superior to Skrtel.
If Agger can stay fit it would be fantastic but judging by his injury record the probability of that is highly unlikely. Kelly and Wilson are prospects but for a CB role IMO i think we should definitely be looking to buy in some quality, as Marsh suggested Carra is nearly done, Skrtel & Greek not up to scratch and Agger injury prone.
Makes sense to get a quality CB.
