Skrtel for me would be a handy back up if our first choice CB's were out.

He makes too many errors on distribution, pretty poor in the air and surprisingly not as strong as he looks, too many times I've seen him out-muscled when you feel he shouldn't be.

I'd like to see a strong organiser at the back next to Agger if possible, problem being these don't come cheap!

Not a priority for me.

Agger plays every game he's fit. Carragher plays every game he's fit.

Skrtel and Kyrgiakos fill in. Wilson, Kelly and Ayala could get the odd run out if we're winning by a load in a game.

Come the summer then perhaps we need to look at selling Skrtel and Kyrgiakos for a top class dominant centrehalf. If only we could find a young Hyypia.

Pretty much agree with this....we should be ok for now....moving forward, once we have sorted left back/wings/strikers/centre mids - then if we can afford too, yes look at centreback

As it stands we should cope - but there is a few things to consider...

aggers fitness - can we get and keep him feet. Hopefully yes - if not, then a like for like replacement should be looked for

then ideally, i'd sell skrtel and kyriakos and sign as rich says a sami hyypia 10 years ago type - big, strong, dominating in the air to be first choice alongside agger.

carragher, then moves into the 3rd choice role as he gets older, but still has plenty to offer with experience and understanding of the football club etc...and, being 3rd choice doesn't mean much nowadays, he isn't being bombed out and would prob still play 25+ games anyway

and finally by then - wilson/ayala/kelly will all be in a position to offer back up - if for some reason, those three don't look capable of being the 4th choice/coming through centre back then we may look at options - but i think certainly between wilson and kelly we should be covered.


So we're ok as we are, until we finally sort out the other areas that are desperate to be improved - once done, then yeah - improve the centre backs....ideally

He's Mr Inconsistency. Everytime you think he's up to the task, he'll put in another shocker. May be time to cut our losses.

Central defence and central midfield both need strengthening.

We need a central defender who can head the ball, has pace and commands the box (leadership skills thrown in would be an added bonus).

I'd get rid of both Skrtel and the Greek and possibly even injury prone Agger. How easily did that Blackpool player get past Agger for the first Blackpool goal and Skrtel is as inconsistent as Kwarme was. He's wank get rid.

Carra i'd like to see in the backup role alongside Ayala or Wilson (not been very impressed with Wilson). Kelly and an experienced other in central defence please.

In midfield both Lucas and Ming are Jacks of all trades master of none, both powder puff tacklers, neither has an awesome engine, neither can ping the ball (Like Xabi), neither score any goals. We need a destroyer in there (Mascharno like) and probably someone who can pass the ball very well (like Alonso) or have a box to box player (like Essien) or have someone who can get goals (like Lampard or Scholes).

In both positions we've not got the right mix of personnel.

skrtel and agger should be shipped if decent replacements can be found. Both are far too inconsistent for first choice centre backs.

Definitely missing Carra... both Agger and Skrtel play better when he is playing.... That said, I think we need to keep them two as a pairing and develop a great understanding under Steve Clarke..

Agger has probably had his head turned under Roy...

That's the key to a good defence imo..

Playing together regularly and developing an understanding.. To keep swapping and changing will only delay the process and that has to include both LB & RB..

I'd agree with that.

I still don't think that we really have a great first choice pairing. As with a number of other areas the players are decent but don't quite gel as a unit. Carragher used to be a good pairing with most players but as he gets older his flaws become more evident and we don't have a great covering defender to play with him.

True, don't think it matters a dickie bird which foot they kick with aslong as they've a good understanding.
