As I said in the lead up, I'd pick him for this one game and see how he went.

He did alright today, but do you think he's good enough long term? Not for me. He was up for it and put in a decent display, but i wouldnt have him near the top of my list of 'regular first team starters'.

well they have been a must since the summer.

i would be happy with them over two windows. as its jan i think we would struggle to get sufficient quality in all those positions. i think it will take two windows to fully address that to be honest.

We've got new owners now and allegedly money to invest in the squad, so I'd be confident we could build on the current squad fairly quickly. Their strategy off the pitch needs to be very clear as from now though, because new players will need to know who will be in charge this summer.

I've heard something today about Suso refusing to sign a new deal with the club because of the uncertainty at this level. Anyone heard this?

Maxi's probably been our 2nd or 3rd best player this season.

I'm hearing ye but in an ideal world i wouldn't be starting Maxi every week, still well worth having around and using him in certain games.
I've changed my views on Maxi this season though, in the main i'm liking what i'm seeing - he's a clever player.

1. he's only just turned 30, i could have swore he was 32

2. he scored 32 goals in 121 games for Atletico Madrid that's like 1 in 4, mighty impressive and 12 in 41 for Argentina.

3. he signed a 3 and a half year contract with Liverpool. i thought it was originally one with a view to a one year extention(this season). Assumed he was out of contract this summer.

If he had pace and was a couple of years younger, he'd be a £20m player IMO.

He's extremely intelligent, as me and mattshark have been saying for ages. And he's always good for a goal every now and then.

He took his time adjusting to the league, but this season, he's been excellent. Maybe that's something to consider when you're hanging Meireles out to dry

The truth probably lies somewhere between but as usual with football fans there is no shades of grey its only black and white

I think we need two quality attacking players (with pace a must)

We also need two really aggressive ball winners (one for the holding midfield and the other at centrehalf)

Thats an absolute MUST anyone else is a bonus

Agree with that, the two attacking players should probably be wide men although I still think Johnson should be given a chance at RM which would allow one of these to actually be a forward. It would also give Kelly a chance to make RB his own.

The ball winners, like you say are a must and I would add a fifth to that list, a LB.
