    No..........

not necessarily poor, wouldn't go as far as that, but I did comment on while he got around OK, he wasn't having any influence on the game at all.
Thought Raul was worse yesterday myself personally (apart from a 10min spell after his great finish)...............doubt Spearing will make it at this club, and, TBH, yesterday done nothing to change that opinion.

No, In the second half when the pressure was on he looked out of his depth, good in first half with time and space and when we were on the front foot.

Good lad, and tries hard but never going to make it in the premier league IMO

spearing after a dodgy 5-10 mins or so at the start was on excellent form yesterday.

he ran around putting in heavy but fair tackles, breaking up passes from neverton and closing down the oppo. it may have been the "local boy" in a "local derby" effect but when chelsea and newcastle fans are asking about the young lad playing in the midfield and commenting on how goos he looked yesterday then you know he had a good game.

along with torres and maxi, i'd say jay was one of our best players yesterday by far. he put lucas in the shade for sure.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Really, I was at a mates house watching it and he simply asked if there was a point to Spearing. He just ran around and did nothing to my eyes and was generally carried by the rest of the team.

            Just to add
He made 3 tackles (2 successful) and had 2 inceptions all game along with 2 failed clearances. Pass accuracy was 71

Lucas comparatively made 9 tackles (7 successful) and 2 inceptions along with 5 clearances, 3 of which were successful. Pass accuracy was 84.

How did he put Lucas in shade exactly?

Spearing for me is a bit of a headless chicken. Good lad but won't make it and best of luck to him elewhere.

I too look forward to seeing the boys in action next weekend.. You know it actually feels good to say that once again. OK the results have not gone our way in the last 3 games, but what a difference over each game..

After the Hodge and his negative style of football it's like a breath of fresh air to see attacking footy again.

I really feel get Steven back and possibly Cole and we'll be much better over all, sure up the defense (I'd try Wilson and Agger for a game) and we'll be flying again.. KD has got us on the the way to playing the Liverpool way - pass and move- A little more time to get fitness levels back and we will be climbing faster than a ferret up a trouser leg..

he was deployed in the "enforcer" role during the game. he was there to break up play which he did and be a nuisance which he was.

mash done that for years here and was lauded for it but didnt really do much else. now im not trying to seriously compare jay to mash but young spearing did a job yesterday. he put in more than a few crunching tackles and whereas lucas was the "playmaker" in the midfield yesterday, it was IMO jay who had to try and take that mantle up as well due to lucas being a passenger during the game.

jay prob wont make it for us long term but for sure he was one of our best yesterday.

I suggest you check out the stats, Lucas did more defensively and more on the ball than Spearing, spearing did very little.

Far more actually, Spearing also misplace too many passes IMO, did better than I thought though.

Got to say I was also disappointed with Kelly's passing at 64% (was not the best tackling either with 7/13), not really great especially as Johnson's was 79% (Johnson was also slightly better at tackling with 7/12)

The not giving the ball away award goes to Maxi who only misplaced 3 passes and had an 89% accuracy.

For those complaining about Kuyt, his accuracy was 74%, above Kelly and Spearing.
Worst was Merieles (58), but 10 of his were crosses/corners, 7 that weren't attempts at a final ball.

A lot of Johnson's passes were just 5 yard 'give backs' to whoever had just passed it to him, though. He was so down on confidence, that he didnt want the ball a lot of the time, and just gave it straight back.

Maxi's passing is a delight, he just doesnt give it away cheaply, such a clever player and a cracking buy.

merieles for me seems to either be too quick to look for a pass or too slow to react. very rarely do i see him being bang on with his movement for receiving the ball or his ability to lay the ball off to feet. also his corners yesterday were very "gerard" - never passed the first man which is annoying. can anyone in our team take a good corner?

I know stats can sometimes be a little misleading, but that doesn't surprise me at all, and TBH, I didn't think it was one of Lucas' better outings to begin with, without bringing Spearing into the mix.

If you check the chalkboard, Johnson's passing is pretty much the same as Kelly's in terms of range, it is just more accurate. It was also his cross the led to Miereles' goal.

Maxi is so reliable it is great, one of our best players.
