Yeah FT, thanks to the wonders of moving picture broadcasting, I finally saw that was a bad decision.Originally posted by Drago View PostI'd say they could feel slightly miffed not to get something out of the game. But to say they dominated is laughable.
If the linesman had of gone to specsavers...

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

We were woeful but we won.
Midfield non existent. Skertl erratic.
We played as if we were using the Fulham game to play in Roy's style as a homage to Hodgson.
Sat deep. Got hit. Gave them tons of space in midfield. Didn't really compete.
Piss poor in truth.
But we won albeit by the skin of our teeth. Not a lot more to be said.

Yeah, but he still won a lot of headers, didn't look like a penalty waiting to happen and passed it well. More worried about the limited output Dirk is giving us these days....Originally posted by Icon View PostThat still means very little...--------------------------------------------------

I thought our main problem towards the end was a complete lack of composure on the ball in our own final third. At times we were lumping the ball out even when there was no Fulham player in the vicinity. That just invited them back on and didn't give us a chance to clear our heads.
Midfield wise, I think we'd look like a really solid team if we brought in a good DM with a bit of pace about him. Watching Poulsen the last few games you can see that he was likely a really good player in his day, but at DM he lacks the pace to cut things out and lack sthe pace to take risks going for the ball in certain situations as he hasn't got the legs to get back.
Problems elsewhere in the team but they've been done to death really. I like both Kuyt and Maxi for what they bring to the team, but one wide player with genuine pace and the ability to go past players would make a huge difference.
Still struggling to see where Adam would fit into our team but I think Suarez would have a big impact. Look forward to seeing them both anyways, hopefully.Forwards.......

I think that part comes down to us still being a team with very little confidence in being able to hold a lead. We have thrown to much away this season, and the sort of panicky, no composure reactions we saw from most of the team comes from this I believe. Fulham did well to press us, but we were equally poor at staying calm like we did the first 60-70 minutes.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostI thought our main problem towards the end was a complete lack of composure on the ball in our own final third. This victory was incredibly important to the team, two on a row, two clean sheets and the confidence that comes from grapping a narrow victory. This will "kickstart" our season, and we will be up and around 5th by the end of it. With confidence comes better play, better defence, better composure etc. so I'm getting optimistic.

I thought our midfield was very good yesterday, Meireles/Poulsen/Gerrard/ seemed to work well, although Gerrard was a bit invisible in the match. Meireles has really found his game under KK, and it suits him much much better. He is very good going forward, and it seems like Poulsen is thriving better being a holding mid than the quasi-center-mid under hodgson.
The only thing missing from that team right now IMO, is a bigger threat from the wings and some more creativity put through there. Yesterday GJ provided the most out on the wing and he was our LB, so something is needed in front of him and Kelly, who also did very well (again) yesterday. I would also like to see carra back as it would help a lot towards organizing the defence and especially in the last 20 min he would have been very valuable.
Torres looks better and better, and unfortunatly had an early goal disallowed. But with him in form and the rest of the team gathering confidence we can challenge for 5th this season dispite our catastrophic first half of the season.
