The problem I have with Johnson on the left is the attacking players in front of him can't time their runs as he has to cut back onto his stronger right foot and all too often the play breaks down. A natural lefty is needed at LB IMO and it should be Fabio.Originally posted by Darkon View PostI thought our midfield was very good yesterday, Meireles/Poulsen/Gerrard/ seemed to work well, although Gerrard was a bit invisible in the match. This
Meireles has really found his game under KK, and it suits him much much better. He is very good going forward, and it seems like Poulsen is thriving better being a holding mid than the quasi-center-mid under hodgson. 100% correct
The only thing missing from that team right now IMO, is a bigger threat from the wings and some more creativity put through there. Yesterday GJ provided the most out on the wing and he was our LB, so something is needed in front of him and Kelly, who also did very well (again) yesterday. I would also like to see carra back as it would help a lot towards organizing the defence and especially in the last 20 min he would have been very valuable.
Torres looks better and better, and unfortunatly had an early goal disallowed. But with him in form and the rest of the team gathering confidence we can challenge for 5th this season dispite our catastrophic first half of the season.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I agree that it would be better with a natural left footed back instead of GJ, as it hampers us going forward. Combined with Maxi who also prefers his right foot and it is bound to be a problem. It would help if GJ could use his left foot just a bit, but he seems very one-footed.Originally posted by SB View PostThe problem I have with Johnson on the left is the attacking players in front of him can't time their runs as he has to cut back onto his stronger right foot and all too often the play breaks down. Hope Aurelio finds his way back or we get a new lb in soon.

.
We were also sitting very, very deep. After hoofing it clear, the Fulham players had a lot of time on the ball to come back at us. There were several times when the players didnt seem sure who should be going to the man (usually Murphy) with the ball.
Probably a hangover from the lack of fitness from Roy's era and having that sitting deep drilled into them.
I also thought we missed Lucas as he's usually quite composed in those situations. Gerrard and Raul were tending to lash it clear in (at best) the vague direction of Torres.

I don't mind maxi cutting inside at times but they both can't do it. Either Kenny should give Fab a go or if the reports about the konch making way for warnock are true, the warnock can offer an option. Personally. I prefer Fabio but I know his fitness record only too well

I think that last night showed why we're looking at Adams to be honest for this window, the MF was poor last night.
Good on the guys though getting a win when not playing at their best, if this had been under the Bodge I'd imagine we'd have been done 1-2 or 1-3 rather than getting the 3 points.
Wins like this will be important for the confidence levels moving forwards.

Think it was Collymore on Talk****e that was saying we need a player like him to free Gerrard and Raul up to get closer to Torres. He was saying Adam can pick the ball up from Pepe and distribute it up to them cleaner and quicker than someone like Poulsen can. Lucas does a brillaint job back there and we missed him last night, but Adam would fit in perfectly next to him and keep the play moving. He wont be an integral cog, but he could be an effective one.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostI think that last night showed why we're looking at Adams to be honest for this window, the MF was poor last night.

To be honest I think that a good supply player is possibly more important than a striker at this time...

Of course, but how can his games-win ration have increased since his current 5 game spell started? He's only won 40% of those, so his games-win ratio must have decreased recently.Originally posted by elrichio86 View PostPresumably it includes his games from his previous time as manager
