    Is Raul Meireles....

The player that Rafa was hoping Aquilani might be?

    Thoughts?

TBH Im looking forward to getting Aquilani back next season and hope we don't sell him. He is proving his fitness in italy.

I dont think we'll be getting him back, unless Juve decide they dont want to keep him - if he's playing well for them as reported, they'll take up their option to buy for £13m and it'll be out of our hands. Plus, i cant see him rejecting them.

I know Aquilani is a good player, but i don't see why everyone has this opinion that because he has been good in Italy he's going to come here and do the same.

I'd more than welcome him back, and im all for giving him another chance, and i hope he proves me wrong, but i cant see him doing it here in the Premier league.

Did I imagine him getting a run of 5 or 6 games at the end of last season where he looked really good? I'm sure he had a few MotM performances.

I was really looking forwarded to seeing how he could progress this season and was gutted when Hodgson shipped him out.

He was doing alright here as it was though, he had 6 assists and a goal from 9 starts and 9 subs appearances in the league which is pretty bloody good. Our highest assist man this season is Gerrard with 4.

Yes i suppose he is and they're quite similar in some ways but also different in others.

Meireles is undoubtedly quicker and more mobile, whereas Aquilani perhaps has a little more skill and is more clinical in front of goal.

I wasn't a fan of Aquilani tho, not at Liverpool anyway. Injuries hampered him but when on the pitch he didn't do it for me.
I know i've been critical of Meireles in the past - mainly due to his reluctance to put his foot in and take a tackle but he's stepped it up in the last few weeks and is showing some fine form, the signs are good.

In terms of their Liverpool careers, i'm not sure if Aquilani is in fact more clinical in front of goal. Meireles already looks more likely to score goals for us than Aquilani ever did IMO.

Regarding Meireles and 'stepping up', improving and potentially turning in performances to make you think again - it's because he is a good player, and always was.

I think Aquiliani was more skilful but without doubt i think Merieles is mroe suited to the premier league, even when he was playing at his best I thought Aquiliani got caught in possession to much and needed more time on the ball, over time he may have adapted more.

just will be interesting to see how Kenny gets the best out of gerrard/merieles/Torres together.

I'm still not keen on Meireles playing off Torres. Put Gerrard there, and Raul alongside Lucas.

I really like this fella now, don't know what it is about him, looks kinda zaney, good little footballer we have on our hands here i think, seems to have settled in to life at lfc as seamlessly as any player ever has.

Not afraid to shoot either, but knows when it's best to pass too, and passes into space aswell for a player on the run so he can take it in his stride.

Great addition, and quickly becoming one of my fav players.

From what i've seen from both, Aqua has slightly more accuracy and power. Meireles can fluff his shots but to be fair he's come close to scoring on many a time this season, and he's defo deserved them goals against Everton and Wolves...he's not afraid of missing and having a go which is a positive.

Yes i suppose he always was a good player but in fairness, it's only in recent weeks he's started to show it on a more consistent basis.

Btw i've never said he was **** or completely wrote him off...just had my doubts about him, nothing wrong with that.

everything wrong with that after 15 games for a foreigner coming to a new league
