We lost the game in midfield in the first half.
You need your defenders to be strong, that was a very poor mistake for an experienced defender, and he makes too many of those errors for me. I'm uncomfortable when I watch him because I expect him to make those mistakes, playing regularly he his a liability. I'd keep him as a back up for now, but we need better first team options.

I agree with you that we lost the game in midfield, but we had a chance to snatch a point at 2-1 the poor defending took that chance away from us.

skrtel is a disaster waiting to happen and will give at least one chance away per game. carras legs have gone and he cant play in a centre back pairing. our best centre back is agger and he cannot be relied on.

we dont have a wide player worthy of the name so having 2 wingbacks offers some width.

neither two of lucas meireles and gerrard is good enough to dominate any game.

given we have serious problems at centre back, centre midfield and out wide the 352 seems to be the best option by offering 3 centre backs, 3 midfield players and 2 wingbacks.

unfortunately today west ham showed the way to play against us. when our defenders have the ball press them and man to man mark our central midfield. our only option left is the long ball and centrebacks arent gonna lose headers against suarez or kuyt.

west ham win the second balls and dominate the game. they win the midfield battle.

with no bite in midfield they played through us everytime. andy carroll will make a difference but no idea when he's gonna make an appearance.

        i think thats the best

What worries me is that both Gerrard and Meireles aren't normal central midfielders. Gerrard vacates the midfield too often leaving us vulnerable. Meireles I still remain unconvinced by; IMO his goals have papered over the cracks of other areas of his game. Lucas has had alot of responsibility for holding the midfield together, and still comes in for alot of unfair critisism IMO

Don't forget we do have young Ayala - who did impress early on in pre season. I'd like to see him get a chance when he's recovered from injury.

Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours

Meireles needs to be kept as far away from the midfield battle as physically possible. His strengths are his energy, runs and shooting. Play to his strengths and keep him away from the rough and tumble of the CM battle in which he clearly is not cut out for.

IMO Ayala will never make it at LFC. I think we need to nail down this position, as well as LB & LM. These positions have been filled by too many stop gap players over recent years.

He is the only "first team" midfielder who can hold but hes not that great at it either

I have argued for weeks we need a dedicated specialised holding player in addition to a midfield playmaker

Now we have been linked with Adam and I can see him filling the playmaker role but defensively hes no better than Lucas

Tackling and physical challenges are not his strengths but if he wants to stay regular he'll need to improve that aspect of his game in a hurry.

I think he is considerably worse defensively.

I think Lucas has done very well as a holding mid personally. He is also doing the role very well for Brazil. He is really not our problem.
He is not as good at holding as Mascherano, but very few are, he is still very good at the role though and is massively unvalued by so many.

Lucas needs to be more assertive. The stats do back him up but, if you actually watch him play, his style of football leaves you in a nervous disposition. He hasnt exactly got the most confident aura about him.
