Anyhoo, we desperately need Carroll for this. We can't leave Suarez so isolated again, although it might have to be mentioned to him that he does have to drop off to receive the ball.

Meireles out could be a small blessing in disguise as it would move Gerrard out of the centre and up behind the strikers or to the right. Spearing had a decent game for the reserves last night - think he'd provide more bite than Poulsen despite his obvious limitations - but that type of player will be needed.

Lucas had his only dip in form on Sunday, so I'm hoping he can quickly turn it round as we need him back on it this weekend. Cole and Johnson on the left hand side fills me with dread, so maybe Maxi could help provide a little balance and support.

As for Deadly Dirka Dirka, I just don't know.

Carroll's not even had a run out on the Reserves yet. I thought they might throw him on the bench for the Reserves last night and maybe give him 30 minutes there, but they didn't.

I think he'll miss this one all together, or at the very most make the bench and play 15 mins max. No chance of him starting IMO, he's not played for a long time.

I don't think you will see him on the bench neither. If you do, then there is an expectation to play him at some point, which I don't he is nearly ready for.

We will need to find the way to win without him and stop Mancs # 19.

Off the topic but today's probably only game I wouldn't mind seeing Nando score.

I'm just holding on to a thin veil of hope that he just gets chucked in the deep end for a 60 minute run about to cause some mischief as our squad really dictates that we can't play Suarez upfront on his own. IMO of course.
