Even if Evans is fit, there's no way Fergie will go to Anfield and pair Smalling and Evans..Wes Brown's experience will ensure he starts.

Think people are making too much of a fuss about Rio & Vidic being out...Brown and Smalling is a solid enough partnership, on paper at least.

      Evans could boost Liverpool
Defender back in training ahead of Liverpool encounter

Skysports.com understands Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is in contention to face Liverpool after returning to training.

Evans has been sidelined with an ankle injury for the past month and has not featured for United since the 2-1 defeat at Wolves.

However, he could give the Premier League leaders a timely boost for the game at arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday by returning to the fold.

Speaking before last weekend's 4-0 win at Wigan Athletic, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Evans and Rio Ferdinand would both be available for the match at Anfield.

Those plans appeared to have changed, however, on Tuesday after captain Nemanja Vidic was sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea and will sit out the Liverpool date through suspension.

Ferguson stated that Ferdinand is out of Sunday's showdown and that Wes Brown would come into the side to partner Chris Smalling at centre-half.

But Evans' return to training this week could give the United manager further options at the back as Liverpool contemplate handing record signing Andy Carroll his debut.

I fully expect to see Rio make a remarkable recovery and line up at the back on Sunday.

with regards Cole and Maxi, for me it's Maxi - JC has so far done nothing for us and Maxi I think offers more in terms of work rate and he's also a good technical player, not saying JC isn't but he's not earned a place for me in the starting 11 so far.

I don't read other forums mate. I have a life outside of here thankfully. You are the 1 person that I constantly read on here calling for Cole's inclusion when he's shown nought to suggest he deserves a crack at it.
I know man, but people were reacting as if me saying i'd rather Cole than Maxi on Sunday was the most sensational thing ever
He can be a useful little player but it's only Maxi FFS

I'm not Joe Cole's number one fan or anything, just the experience of him playing against United for about 10 years and his ability to produce a moment of magic gets him the nod.

I think we all have a life away from the forum man, but the daily 10 or 15 minute nosey through other LFC forums has to be done, get the lowdown

Excellent, excellent news really. Gives us options:

Johnson Carra Agger Aurelio or even

              Carra Skrtel Agger

with Johnson and Aurelio as wingbacks.

It would be interesting if Carroll is fit to start to have Johnson and Aurelio putting in crosses with Lucas, Gerrard, Meireles and Surez in the middle/support.
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

If fit I'd look at playing this

                    ......................Reina......................

                    Johnson....Carra.....Agger......Aurelio

                    ..............Lucas......Gerrard........

                    ......Kuyt........Raul.........Suarez

                    .................Carroll...............

If not replace Carroll with Suarez up top and bring Maxi into the side.

I'd love our chances if that were the line up

Need to win the midfield battle...
Gerrard, Lucas and Meireles against Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes.

As regards the Cole vs Maxi debate, firstly i'm not a fan of Maxi & i used to be a big fan of Cole. I think we have serious deficiencies at LM, i do think Cole (Not on LFC form)is a better player than Maxi in general though.

Cole at LM seems too predictable to me i'm always waiting for him to do something that doesn't seem to come, he just doesn't really seem to do much there. I'd like to see Cole at RM or behind the striker but can't see him ever nailing down those positions as others ahead in the pecking order so i'm not sure where he stands at LFC really? There is no denying that Cole can be a fantastic talent, but we haven't seen no where near it in a LFC shirt. IMO i don't think Maxi or Cole will be here come start of next season.

I'd love Cole to succeed and silence the critics as he can be a diamond player on form, but nothing seems to be going right for him, right from the get go everything has gone wrong. Anyways i personally think Maxi is maybe a better option at LM, and thats not that Maxi's is great there either. Think it shows how hamstrung we are in that position, to be honest Cole or Maxi at LM is much of a muchness on current form, either way its not a good position for us.

Had no problems against a similar Chelsea midfield that dominated United.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                              Not at all true.

For virtually the whole of the first half, United's midfield dominated.

Liverpool tv is showing the 4-1 at old trafford right now. Aurelio's just about to stick the 3rd in. Dossena looks hungry too
