both were red card offences for me but Rafael went in to do damage, carra's was just poor and mistimed.

I know what you mean yet I think Carragher was more deserving of red because he did catch Rafael.

A qualified ref told me a few years ago that intent is now (or was then, it could have been changed again since) only relevant to handball decisions.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Carra did what all non Man Utd fans would love to do.

Carra continues to live our dreams!

The referees in the PL really are ****. The ref in the Spurs game also bottled it big time when he didn't send Hutton off. The most clear cut goal chance sending off you will ever see and he got a yellow.

The refereeing is so bad that all you can do is to laugh about it. It is comedy gold every week to see them in action.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Well surely that second part is not true? If I player swings a punch but misses, surely he can still get sent off for intent?

I don't think anyone could complain if either had been a red card.

see, I've heard that intent is seen as relevant and it should have been a red, same goes for his two footed effort in the FA cup.

Carra should have gone, no doubt, he didn't and we got away with one for once

Surely there doesn't have to be intent? Rafael flew through the air with both feet off the ground and had Lucas not jumped out the way he may have had a leg broken. A wild challenge.

And why was that cry baby cunt not sent off for man-handling the ref?

Look at Joe coles sending off against Arsenal. No intent to get the player there.

I agree, both deserved to go but if one got red and the other yellow then I think most neutrals would call it against Carragher.

Fighting constitutes violent conduct, even if you're too crap to land a punch.

                      insert Audley Harrison joke here

On reflection, I think yellows for both was pretty reasonable tbh.

By the time Rafael got to Lucas, there was only one foot that was significantly off the ground.
