IMO if that is the case there is something wrong with the laws of the game.

But Rafael didn't make contact with Lucas so if intent doesn't come into it why was he booked?
I've just realised we're talking at cross purposes. The intent point came up in reference more to Carra than Rafael.

People were saying Carragher's foul wasn't as bad as Rafael's because they thought Carra didn't mean to hurt anyone whereas Rafael did (or didn't care if he did). I pointed out that intent isn't relevant to whether it's a foul.

On reflection I imagine it can change the severity of the punishment because it might change the category from a foul to dangerous play or unsportsmanlike conduct or whatever. All the same, how you're meant to judge intent is fraught with difficulty.

But I don't think it's reasonable to claim Rafael's foul was worse, intentional or not. I think he could fairly have seen red for dangerous play and Carragher even more so, probably for the same offence, even if you think he didn't mean to make contact. It was an ugly foul, standing leg and Nani was lucky it only drew blood rather than broke his leg. Mistimed or malicious, it was a sending off.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I think Phil Dowd had an excellent game today.
      Are we winning?

                  Sorry my bad.

Both could have been red cards, but I think that the referee was consistent within the game as either both should have gone or neither, the ref chose the latter and I guess it is subjective. Although had one gone off and the other not I think the team who were reduced to 10 would probably have cause for complaint.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Shouldn't the media talk about United boycotting them instead? Or us outplaying them?
Whatever, this was a glorious game and I will be gloating big time tomorrow at work. YNWA!!!

Nah I've thought a lot of the games over the last few years have been pretty tame, despite a number of red cards (mainly for Vidic and Mascherano). Today was ace though...I was ****ing brawling with them at the end of the first half, on my feet and booting thin air ...completely lost it
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Honestly more excited about Suarez than I was when Torres joined us long ago. He has MORE than Torres because he is clearly a playmaker and can also score goals. He has better work rate, better determination and desire to win. Torres would drop his head if they were losing but Suarez is a fighter. The most exciting player iv seen for a long time. He's gonna be a kop legend and Torres will be long forgotten as he slips into mediocrity with Chelsea!!
