He's retired. I really liked him. A class left-back when fit. In fact I think in terms of ability he's the best left back we've had in the modern era.....which you could argue is as much a damning indictment on the standard of left backs we've had for two decades, but still...he was great. I agree completely, he was awesome, too bad he couldn't clip his toenails without getting injured. Are there any news on what his plans are now after he's retired? He always appeared like a smart dude, could probably have a role in coaching or managing

Great player - you'd just write him off & he'd get back to fitness & you'd remember exactly how good he was. Then he'd get injured again. Real shame, we don't seem to have much luck with our talented fullbacks what with him Jones & Babbel.

He was ****ing awesome, excellent defensively aswell despite being small and not particularly quick. It's a shame about the injuries but then I suppose if he had a good fitness record we'd have never got him as he'd have been at Barca or Real.

We'd have another CL if he hadn't got injured v Chelsea.

I creamed myself when we signed him. I remember a lot of people turned on him after his debut when we conceded against Sheffield United (I think) from a set piece. If it was anyone's fault it was Gerrard's - but he got slated as not being able to defend and a 'winger playing at the back'.

Even though he eventually won over Liverpool fans, I don't really think he got the recognition he deserved overall.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better left foot.
