My initial reaction was that that he needed to prove himself and was concerned that he wouldn't be over his injury problems.Originally posted by my left foot View Posthaha, yeah, there were some rather cringy cartwheels being done at the time. 'As good as Messi'
I was always suitably underwhelmed though.
BY the time the season had started I convinced myself that he'd be back to his best and him and the Bodge would bring us PL glory.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

In Rodgers' latest interview on the official website he seems to indicate that Joe Cole will be part of his squad. I get the impression he really feels he can get him playing again.
Still I'd have thought with the wages he's on FSG would have been hinting at moving him on. We'll see I guess. It's an interesting one.

What did he say wrong though? All he's really said is all the players start afresh now. Obviously I'm reading into it that he seems to rate Joe, the interview certainly suggests that to me, but I might be wrong. What's wrong with all the players starting with a clean slate under a new manager?

This sentiment is fine in principle but I wouldnt be too optimistic of the future if Cole and Carragher (who he also mentioned) were part of next seasons plansOriginally posted by Pablo1981 View PostWhat did he say wrong though? That is why I'm not so positive we really should be moving on from themBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Does he warrant a £90k a week place in the squad though? I think that will ultimately be a big factor.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostI've got no problem with Cole coming back if Rodgers thinks he can get him playing well for us and become a useful member of the 1st team squad.

I don't know, if Rodgers thinks he's worth keeping and will offer something to way he plays then probably if he decides not then he'll be off.Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostDoes he warrant a £90k a week place in the squad though? I think that will ultimately be a big factor.
There are several players on large wages you could be asking the same question of really; you never know he might manage to get some of these high payed players we have on our books that haven't done it for us so far to gel and show why they were bought in the first place.

We're clearly making an effort to get some of the higher paid, older/fringe players off the books. Kuyt and Maxi (almost), and Aquilani will be eventually. I think Cole will be on the top of that list too personally.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostI don't know, if Rodgers thinks he's worth keeping and will offer something to way he plays then probably if he decides not then he'll be off.

Arguably including Gerrard at this stage.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostI don't know, if Rodgers thinks he's worth keeping and will offer something to way he plays then probably if he decides not then he'll be off.

For me a lot of the discussions on who should stay/go are based on emotional attachments/dislikes of the players involved. In most cases I think the players on our books deserve a chance to impress Rodgers and should be given that chance. On the other hand there may well be off field factors on some deals (particularly with Aquilani) which heavily influence what is the sensible decision and in general we have few/none of the relevant facts to judge.Last edited by dww; 15-06-12, 11:40 AM."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
