For me a lot of the discussions on who should stay/go are based on emotional attachments/dislikes of the players involved. In most cases I think the players on our books deserve a chance to impress Rodgers and should be given the chance to impress. On the other hand there may well be off field factors on some deals (particularly with Aquilani) which heavily influence what is the sensible decision and in general we have few/none of the relevant facts to judge.

Every player should need to prove themselves to the manager regardless of status.

I think Joe Cole should at least be allowed a full season to show an improvement..No doubt January will be the bench mark.

He'd be useful to have in Euro comp and early round cup games..

At the time I thought Cole was a good signing on a free. He looked poor under Roy but I didn't see a proper place for him in a 442, same goes for Kennys system.

Cole is not a winger in the sense they wanted. For me he's a David Dilva type player, a playmaker from wide positions who can cut in and cause problems.

If used properly and if his fitness is up to scratch, he could be a player of genuine quality. But out wide in a basic 442 he doesn't suit, and he's not the right fit to be in an off the striker type role.

Had Roy or Kenny used a more modern formation / way of playing, we may have found a use for him.

All that said, Rodgers normally likes his wide players full of pace. So if he sticks with that, I still see no place for Cole!
        Forwards.......

Really do not want Cole back here. He never was the right type of player for us and has been another huge waste of resources. His 'cracking' season in France amounted to 4 league goals (5 in the cup) and 3 assists (compared with Eden Hazard's 22 goals and 16 assists). Plus he is the wrong side of 30 as well. Just get him off our payroll asap.

He is, at best, a squaddie standard player for what we're looking to achieve these days, and you can't pay your squad players £90k a week

Would've been a good signing ten years ago, but his legs have completely gone.

Plus he is at his most effective when he plays in the 'hole' and I think we have several alternatives all of whom are more exciting IMO. Gerrard, Suarez, Sigurdson (if he signs!) can all play there and I think Rodgers may even look to blood youngsters like Suso who can play in that role.

Messi (if he signs!) is also decent for us in that position

I think he's been at his most effective when he was playing wide and being instructed constantly by Mourinho. I'm not a huge fan and think he lacks game intelligence but he's skillful and I can imagine him making a decent contribution (even if I think his off the ball play isn't ideally suited to the type of tactics Rodgers has used previously).

Like many I was really happy when he chose to sign for us instead of Spurs but I can't help but think he's well past his best & the quicker we,re rid the better. He lacks pace , hunger & desire & we don't need people like that at the Club.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

The one thing I don't think he lacks his hunger.....I am sure Adam will have a contender in the pie-eating contests once Cole is back.
