Meireles had to play in a deeper position to pick up the ball. Braga do what a lot of teams do when Carra and Skrtel play, they marked Lucas out of the game meaning that Meireles had to play deep and pick up the ball. The option would have been hoof hoof hoof.

Thats all kind of irrelevant because Meireles still got the ball in areas (as did Maxi, Cole & Glenda) that had potential and all it needed was a bit of responsibility and endeavour from those players yet they took the easy option and cutback rather than taking it and having a go themselves

Put Kelly or Suarez in those positions and you can bet your bottom dollar they would taken on the Braga players rather than cutting back and hiding

It is his job. If the central defenders isn't good enough with the ball then it takes the pace out of the attacks. It is his job to deliver a quick pass to a midfielder, Lucas in this case, before Lucas is being closed down.

On the counter attack too many of our players always look to pass backwards rather than carry on the attack - ruins the threat allowing their players to get back and defend.

Insua would as Wilson hasn't given us any offense today and Braga wasn't really a threat to score so Insua could have been a difference.

We just didn't have anybody to stretch the defense and open things up for Carroll who I thought overall had a good, solid game..

If you look at the last ten years then Insua is probably our best left fullback. Don't say much because of the lack of competition but he was still our best left fullback the last 10 years or so.

Criminal to get rid of him the way we did. Look at what mess that created. Many players being forced to play out of position thanks to that loan.
