Bearing that in mind we might have been better off just spending the £12 million on one player
If we didn't had to pay £30m+ in interest then Rafa would probably not been sacked because we would have finished in the top four. I think it is something like £90m we paid in interest the last few years.

Imagine how many excellent players we would have been able to sign for £90m.

The debt thing is the key to the mess we are still in. It will take at least a couple of years to build up the squad again.

The Academy will be key to that. It will allow our manager to spend big on quality instead of quantity like Rafa was forced to do.

Gillett, Hicks, Parry and Purslow x a million.

              x doesn't stand for a kiss.

The squad is poor and thin and not nearly good enough for the club of our magnitude and to say that Hodgson/Purslow combo has nothing to do with that is not true.

Poulsen, Konk, Aurelio (good when fit but never fit is definitely a problem), loaning Aqua man were all Hodgson's mistakes.

Getting J. Cole, Jovanovic, loaning Insua and selling Riera (we could have used him this year) were all Purslow's errors.

None of brought players (withe exception of Meireles) made any significant contribution and we definitely missed badly the ones that were either loaned or sold.

We need heavy investment in pretty much every area of our squad and we cannot sugar coated that we need just a few players and we'll compete for top places and CL spots.

We are presently miles away and FSG will have to dig deep in their pockets if they want us to be again where we once were.

                    Kenny laments lack of ideas

Kenny Dalglish admits a shortage of creativity led to Liverpool's UEFA Europa League exit against Braga on Thursday night.

The Reds were already trailing the Portuguese club 1-0 after a last-16 first-leg defeat last week, and they failed to overturn that deficit at Anfield as Braga held them to a goalless draw.

Dalglish feels luck and inspiration were the missing factors as his side saw their European ambitions brought to a grinding halt.

"You need to be strong creatively if you are going to break down a really organised side. Or you need a bit of luck," said Dalglish.

"We certainly didn't have much fortune over the two legs but I suppose everyone would say the same thing.

"Like every other team in the world we could use a bit more creativity but we are no different to anyone else."

Liverpool's record-signing Andy Carroll made his first start for the club after shrugging off a hamstring injury which has hindered his start to life on Merseyside.

The former Newcastle striker failed to open his Reds account, but Dalglish insists he was satisfied with his display.

He said: "He stayed on longer than we hoped he'd have to stay on. Necessity meant he had to stay on the pitch because we needed to score a goal.

"He has tremendous assets and we need to learn how to get the best out of him. We've also got assets that he has to learn, so he can get the best out of us.

"Overall we are pleased to see him back on the pitch. We weren't disappointed with his contribution in any way.

"He was a bit unfortunate he didn't score a goal. He had a header in the first half that was just wide and in the second half another one where Dirk Kuyt got in the way.

"It was his first start and he can be very pleased with how he played."

                      Never said they weren't.

In fact, never mentioned Purslow at all.

Just saying the reasons for the poor squad can't simply be laid at Hodgson's door. He made things worse not better I grant you.

But it goes deeper than that.

Either way, the squad is deeply substandard. It's mostly deadwood. We need a massive clearout in my view.

To be fair, we've got Stevie injured and Luis cup tied. Stevie and Luis are important players. Had they played, we would have got through.

Squad is not the best but it's good enough to have a shot at 4th. We're down to where we are now because of Roy Hodgson.

                          .
I know you didn't mention Purslow but I felt it is important to include him to make my point more relevent.

Agree completely about the squad and deadwood on the bench.

I think we need to get rid of bunch of players and I am hoping that we will be rebuilding the squad seriously and significantly in the summer rather than trying to patch it up.

Quite Frankly for me to act in this manner is pathetic. I wanted us to win and play well. But when I am reduced to acting like a dick because I have never rated 'Joe Cole is a c***' to get some joy after a terrible performance by our team just goes to show how far we have fallen away in Europe never mind the league.

Expecting a player to fail isn't something to celebrate! I was one of those who expected more from Joe Cole. He has been an excellent player in the past, usually against us! I doubt very much that he will ever become a decent player for us, he is a liability although I don't think that he was anywhere near our worst player this evening.

We are a completely different team with Suarez in it.

That is all I really have to say in this thread
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                                Mine angry and defrauded young?
