I'm not saying he warrants a permanent place, or a place in the first 11, but I hadn't appreciated how few games he's played with the regular players. He's had probably about 8 games playing with the regulars, in some big game this season, and while he hasn't shone in those games he hasn't looked out of his depth either. Could he have a future as a squad player playing on a semi regular basis. I'm not expecting him to be a star player or even a regular starter, but I guess he could be some who could do a job for us similar to an O'Shea or someone at Man Utd.

He doesn't have good height nor physical presence to impose himself in his natural position game in and game out.

His physical and technical deficiencies would become more and more apparent if he would play regularly.

Could he stay a squad player sure but is he really good enough to warrant the place on the bench I personally don't think so.

I've never understood the kicking that spearing has taken on here. It's not like he's played a 100 games. he hasn't ****ed up in a major way or got sent off. he's a bright player that is always looking to move the ball quickly and usually forwards. he'll never be a world beater but as a back up he's more than useful. Hopefully under Kenny we'll be back to the days where if you play well you keep your place the next game. For too long its been the case that no matter how well a 'squad' player does he won't keep his place. where's the incentive?

But Spearing is similar to lucas and many of our players for that matter, in so far as they're not game changers. If the side is playing **** they can't lift the team to play better. Lucas is a good example, he rarely ever takes hold of a game and inspires us to do better. He does the same job week in week out. We need more Gerrard's and Suarez's.

Hasn't stopped Danny Murphy carving out a decent career for himself. If you're small you have to have a good footballing brain to make up for it, I think Jay has. If you watch him closely he's always pointing where to pass and where players need to be, similar to Carra does.

Murphy is much more complete player than J and has the better passing and leadership qualities that I personally don't think J possesses.

That said, he is our player so I guess the option is to loan him to some low ranking PL club and see if he can make.

If he does, he can always come back.

Murphy is a much better player than Spearing though. Spearing is simply not good enough.

Does he not? He lacks height but he is a tough character, he's not had enough games to say what he'll be like game in game out.

I'm not saying he should be a regular, but as a back up squad player he could do a job. A number of players in his type of role take a while to mature; Lucas and Fletcher both took alot of games to get to where they are now, Spearing hasn't had games.

Doesn't have to be on the bench. Can be in reserve. Keep him until another youngster is ready to step in and is better than him. By then he'll have played a few games and will be worth a few bob too.

Fair enough, but if we have to send him out on loan for a year, we'll probably have to bring someone in to cover for him for a year, and if that's the case is there any point in keeping him as we'd already have a replacement?

I'd play him regularly from now until the end of the season and see how he does, and make a decision based on that.

Given the performance today I think it is safe to assume that he'll be preferred option over Poulsen for the rest of the season and we'll probably see him again against WBA.

That said, we have some very tough games on our schedule Spurs, Gunners, Cityh etc. and I just don't have confidence (at this moment) that he can deliver in those games but you never know.
