But that lack is because he isn't good enough and we have often had better options, you can't make excuses for him. We need far better than what he can offer.

Yep, I like the guy, he tries his bollocks off, he's just sadly not good enough for me, that's all.

Actually, I'll throw in the fact that since Agger got injured we went from having a solid back line to falling to pieces really.

As I said before, there have been many factors for the league position but the people at the front of the queue to blame should be the ones on high wages, massive transfer fees, first team experience etc... imo

It was before that mate, we have been terrible since new year, our record without Lucas is relegation stuff.

I think the fault of those players has been highly acknowledged, doesn't mean Spearing is ever going to be good enough and has failed to protect our defence.

Weren't we drawing alot of games rather than losing? Just off the top of my head, not sure...

I've seen Lucas exposed when opposing teams play 3 centre mids as we don't have another midefielder who can cover defensively, so again I think we should bear that in mind.
Also, the fact that some of our best performances have come with Spearing in the side.

If it was my decision, I would have gone for M'Vila last summer anyway but what do we know?

Yes, but Lucas is the only good defensive midfielder in our team, our attacking issues are neither Spearing nor Lucas' fault. But the lack of cover Spearing offers because he is not good enough is a real issue.

The overring in midfield is a tactical issue more than anything.

Spearing is nowhere near Lucas' class, I agree. He's come into a fragile side that has not been able to cover for him or his lack of abilty. He does give 100% though and seems like he does the best with what he's got, poor bugger.

I still have more of an issue with the other lads though

I think he flatters to decieve, he doesn't actually do anything much bar running around manically.

He isn't a defensive midfielder at all IMO, and he certainly isn't a holding midfielder, I think people considering to be one is influencing peoples opinions on his ability.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                        He's pony.

Ship him out in the summer along with Carragher, Aurelio, Kuyt, Adam, Downing and Cole.

Out of that list I'd keep Adam

For all this how **** hes been hes still got 6 or 7 assists

I think he'd be ok as a squad player / back up short term

I dunno, he doesn't do anything for me but I can see your point. Suppose it depends on who we sign in the summer.

                              The 'midfield dynamo' speaks.......

Wembley woes? Spearing would be 'gutted' to miss Liverpool's FA Cup Final

'Anyone who has played in the rounds leading to the final would be devastated if they missed out' says Reds midfield dynamo

Jay Spearing has never had it easy at Liverpool.

But the 23-year-old *midfielder admits he will be distraught if he is left out of the FA Cup Final side.

“I never take anything for granted – you never can at Liverpool,” said the lad born in Birkenhead.

“But if I am honest, I would be gutted if I didn’t make the team for Wembley.

“Anyone who has played in the rounds leading to the final would be devastated if they missed out.

“I’ve dreamed of playing at Wembley and winning trophies for Liverpool for as long as I can remember.”

At 5ft 6in, Spearing was the unlikeliest of centre-backs when he captained Liverpool to the FA Youth Cup in successive seasons.

But a broken leg hindered his progress and when Spearing was loaned out to Leicester, it seemed he would fall just short at the club he joined as a seven- year-old. However, he has blossomed under Kenny Dalglish this season, *despite the presence of Steven *Gerrard and the arrival of Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson.

When he agreed to Adam’s request to give up the No. 26 shirt, some saw it as *evidence that Spearing would be used sparingly.

But he explained: “There was no problem. It was Charlie’s lucky number because of his son’s *birthday so I was happy to do it.”

Spearing knew he had *arrived the day he felt *confident enough to offer Gerrard a word of advice.

He holds the captain in such esteem that he couldn’t talk to him when he was coming through the ranks.

“Even when I was 18 and had been at the club a few years, I was too shy to talk to him,” said Spearing.

“But the more I have played, the more I have got the confidence to tell him to do this and that.

“It will always be important for the club to have Scouse lads in the team.

“I will never be Stevie G. I can’t do the things with a ball that he can. But I will strive to get as close to him in terms of talent as I can.”
