He's good as long as we have someone like Lucas playing. A useful squad player for sure.

Spearing is just not good enough, simple as that. There was a part when Lucas got injured and he got a run of games and I had hopes he could raise his game. But as time has gone he almost gotten worse. To slow on the ball and not enough game intelligence - fatal for a holding midfielder.

Was listening to the Fulham game on LFC.tv. Seems like Jay's on-the-ball game has become as bad as his off-the-ball game. Shame as I thought he could really make it. Serious Pachecho-esque regression.

It was on par with Sally Diao's legendary performances in Everton away and Fulham away (first half) in Rafa's first season.

He is a Championship quality midfielder.

I didn't see last nights performance, but it seems many seem to relish a chance to knock the lad. his form has dropped off over the last month or so, but he's put in plenty of decent performances this season. he's an honest lad and doesn't go hiding, always wanting the ball. I hope he starts on saturday.

I think he's one of those players that plays at a level of the players around him, if you surround him with quality players he'll usually do quite well, if you play him in a 'reserve team' he'll play poorly. He's not the type of player who can take control of a game and make things happen, but he can be effective in a team with players who can.

Playing with better players mitigates his general woefulness by making him look better than he actually is, but that's no excuse to play him.
