Dalglish: Gerrard could play against West Brom

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will not be pressed into action sooner than he is ready according to manager Kenny Dalglish.

The midfielder returned to full training this week having recovered from a groin operation on March 10 which forced him to miss three matches, one in the Barclays Premier League and two in Europe.

Earlier this week Gerrard said he hoped to be available for selection for Saturday's trip to West Brom to face former boss Roy Hodgson.

However, Dalglish is wary of of rushing back one of his more influential players when there will be seven other equally-important matches to follow in Liverpool's run-in as they seek to reel in fifth-placed Tottenham in order to qualify for Europe.

"We'll have a look. He's recovered really well from the surgery he had so we'll see how he is before we decide whether he's in or out," said the Scot.

"He's certainly done a lot of training this week - not all the training the other lads have done, but a lot of it.

"But two weekends ago at Sunderland Jay Spearing played really well.

"There is no need for us to be in a rush to bring Steven back."

There is mixed news on the injury front for Dalglish as, although all his players returned from international duty relatively unscathed, defender Martin Kelly has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring strain sustained at West Ham in late February.

Fabio Aurelio's return from a similar problem was delayed slightly by an unconnected injury but he should be back with the full squad by the end of the week.

Full-back Glen Johnson has a slight Achilles problem but midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has returned from knee surgery earlier than anticipated.

"Everyone has come back from international matches okay," said Dalglish.

"Martin Kelly picked up an injury while he was trying to recuperate, a wee recurrence in the same area.

"Fabio Aurelio has had a setback as well but it isn't the same injury and he should be training before the end of the week while Jonjo Shelvey is back training."

One of the main priorities this Summer is getting a fullback or 2 into the club, Aurelio as good as he can be is injured more than Agger and that's saying something!

Shame about MK but rather he wasn't rushed back to break down again

Got to be confident with a Carroll, Suarez and Kuyt front three.

Dirk is in the best form he has been in for years. Suarez is Suarez. And the goal for England should do Carroll the world of good.

I wouldn't rush Stevie back. Lucas, Spearing and Miereles can do a job as a midfield three until the 60 min mark.

Little bit off topic but 2 LBs imo would be a necessity but having Aurelio on the payroll doesn't help.

I'd sell Aurelio in the summer but with his age and more so his injury record we'll have extremely tough time find a buyer.

I can see us signing a good quality LB such as Enrique, Baines (would love Coentrao but spending 20+ on LB seems very unlikely) and a freebie such as Wendt, Taiwo or bringing back Insua.

I'd sell Aurelio as well, but I don't think we need TWO new left backs.

If we get one, probably Enrique, we'll be alright. Johnson, Agger or Carra can play there if needed.

              Neh.

Having Aurelio is like not having a player. We need 2 more.

I like Aurelio but he's of no use to us if he's only fit for 15-20 games per season.

Hope Johnson is fit for this - full backs are an issue and losing to Captain Smint is unthinkable!

I'd be looking to play with the 3 behind Carroll inter changing.

                  -------------Reina----------

                  Carra---Skrtel---Agger---Johnson

                  -------Lucas----Gerrard--------

                  --Kuyt-----Merieles-----Suarez

                  -----------Carroll-------------

                    Even that could be pushing.

This year he had 8 starts (he was subbed in 23rd minute, 37th minute, 62nd and 76th minute) and total of 11 appearances and last year he had 13 starts in all competition and about 10 subs appearances.

Irish reds take note - this one will be live on Setanta Ireland.

A fluky 1-0 away win will do nicely
