In a 343, Flanno isn't good enough.

He's more of a defender type full back, as opposed to an attacking one. Too small to play as one of the 3 CB's. too limited to play a wing back role.

I'm of course not sure we will stick with a 343.

He's very comfortable on the ball. He could play the wing back on either side. Granted 4 at the back would be his preferred position. Good to have options.

Yeah I think when he's fit he's got enough about him attacking wise to cope with a wingback role. It's not ideal for him, but he's better going forward than Manquillo is for instance.

Do you reckon? I actually quite rate Manquillo going forward.

Where do we put Flanno? I think Moreno is better than him, so think he'd be second choice left back. Markovic is playing the wing back role well, and I'd be happy to keep him there. There's obviousky Manquillo as well, and Glen(if the stays) will be no doubt in the mix of Brendan's mind.

I think either way Flanagan ends up back-up.

I wonder if his injuries may sway Brendan into giving Johnson a new contract? If Flanno was fit & firing I doubt we'd renew glens contract myself.

dont forget that manquillo is only on loan.
no one in the whole world knows the weird details of the deal. we need an enigma machine to decipher the details.

I agree. But neither is in the team at present in a first XI.

I guess it's hard to have a debate on Flanno without knowing the clubs long term plans. He's a good defensive full back and he's okay going forwards. In a back 4 he was our best full back last season and if fit, would be our best full back now. Moreno has a higher ceiling due to the pace, but if Flanno could play RB as well as he did LB, they'd compliment each other well.

But in a 3, I'm not seeing who he replaces. Doesn't have the pace to be effective in defence & attack as a wing back, which you need. He'd certainly get games and would be able back up, but not first choice for me in that role.

I think this is the case too. There are a few uncertainties with our defensive planning (!!!), and Rodgers obviously needs cover in the position. We also Wisdom to accommodate as well, so it will be no surprise if Glen stays on.

Think the plan was Johnson and Manquillo this season (with Flannagan out for most of the season and Wisdom learning out on loan), let Johnson go in the summer, then Manquillo and Flannagan (with occasional glimpses of Wisdom, who might go out for a further loan if Flannagan is back to form) next season. At that point decisions would need to be taken
