Very useful player to be part of the squad and based on who we have available should be a starter. He's got a touch of Carragher about him with his no nonsense style of play.

Needs to show he can stay fit and be part of the regular match day squad and if he can then he certainly should be getting a new contract.

The first year may have been 25k, the last year of that 4 year deal wasn't, there were increases and appearance clauses in it.

I don't know the exact figure to the penny but it's a lot more than any of us would reasonably expect him to be on given his career to date.
Kenny had a soft spot for him and sorted his contract out.

He was out of contract so of course he could leave for free. We had no obligation to match his current wage cos the contract guaranteeing him that wage expired that summer. Nobody would take him even if he wanted to go because he was injured so being the nice folk we are we gave him a few quid like Dave suggests to sort him out while he got back to fitness.
        No.
Bosman kicks in at 24, to protect the value/investment/training of a player under that age they have to be offered the same or more money as their last/current contract, if we had offered less Flanno turns it down and walks away for virtually nothing.

The argument at a tribunal would be you don't value him as you offered him 10k a week when previously he was on x times more.
The injury is irrelevant because they'll argue the long term view.

It would have been 1 year added to the existing contract.

So 3 years of a 4 year deal at £25k, the last year at £50k? Actually just re-read, you're saying his contract is/was £25k per week, but in his last year he got paid £50k based on bonuses or what have you?

I'm not for a second suggesting you're making anything up, but unless you're Flanagan's accountant I'd take whatever info you've been given with a pinch of salt
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

That would depend on who told me wouldn't it, as I've said before if a MOD wants to PM me I'll tell them.

Anyone can believe what they want, my personal opinion is he's overpaid and that his agent is asking for a lot of money purely based on the fact he's a local lad and Carra & Gerrard have retired and we need to have one apparently, it would look bad on the club if we let a scouser leave because we won't pay him as much as a foreigner...........

So Flanno's contract negotiations aren't based on his ability, or his fitness but on where he was born.

Ok, with regards to the contact here's a couple of examples -

              1. 25k a week contact raising by 7.5k a year meaning in year 4 of the contact he's on £47,500 a week.
              2. 25k a week contract which rises by x amount every 10 games. 40 games later = 4 incremental raises in the basic.
              3. 25k a week contract with 1 trigger in it increasing it to x (insert your own figure) after a certain number of games.

If anyone thinks a player gets paid the same on day 1 of his contact as he does on the last day then that just doesn't happen.

What's worse than potentially letting a scouser leave because you won't pay him what he wants?
Leak a rumour that he'll sign for the local rivals.

Flanno is the mini Wayne Rooney.

Stupid thing to do if that's the case.

Not going to help Flanno is it if fans believe he'd be willing to sign for them for a bit more cash.

I couldn't agree more mate, he came in the season after carraghers last and for me he looks like a natural replacement, tough tackling, no nonsense leader at the back.a tad reckless but that's part of his game.

There was a great pic of him being mobbed after he scored his first goal for us and he had a little semi on the go lol

Rumours last time was that Flannagan had turned down an offer of £70k, no idea what he wants. Again, no idea what he's on now but he obviously got injured before he could sign any new deal.

We do know with Carragher that the local lads certainly know their worth. He'll be after big money which is why the deal may take a while being offered as he'll have to prove he's worth it.

Walks away to who? He was long term injured at the time who'd want him? He had no entitlement to any wage once his contract ran out which it would have while he was still injured. No chance he turns down any offer that gives him a wage when the alternative is no wage at all. So it makes sense that he'd accept a token contract to tide him over and look to review it once he proved his fitness.

Just bollocks rumours, there might be a complex contract structure on offer based on the closeness to his current contract expiry, his potential worth to the team and his recent injury concerns. Just give it time eh?
