    This.

We were playing a morphed 4-3-3 for most of the time when Meireles was playing 'wide left'. It's important to have players like him.

Play with a Lucas-Spearing midfield and you'll need your front four to be in scintillating form for us to keep winning games and that won't happen all the time.

Everyone know that I criticised him many times when he made big mistakes. It is only that he didn't made that many BIG tactical mistakes. How many games did he get totally wrong tactically during his six years after his first learning year?

The criticism was more about that we played to boring and defensive football than about tactical mistakes.

Massive criticism was over the top but he made big mistakes. The same mistake Hodgson made against City and he got slated for that.

KK will make mistakes because he is still learning the game after being out a long time. It will take time to get everything right. He will learn and not make the same mistakes again. If he make the same mistake again and again and again then it is time to get worried.

Today was only one game but he still got it wrong.

Not being disrespectful but if you dont tackle you dont win back the ball, if you dont press quickly without putting your foot in, you dont win the ball. Today, we didnt put any decent pressure and tackles on modric and he danced around us creating space for others at will.

For midfielders, tackling is one of the most fundamental parts of the game and thats where meireles fails because he's a bit of a pussy.
How many times do you see the Barca players tackling? Half the teams don't even know what to do even if you give the ball away. You get it back half as easily.

We were **** today not because we didn't tackle but because we were outnumbered in midfield. Sandro-Modric-VdV against Lucas-Spearing.

two of their three can play the simple pass in a split second and tackling won't really help you there. When you have adequate numbers you win the ball back automatically if you press well.

Please, let us not even go there Arn. We played some absolutely woeful footy under Rafa at times too. Let's not be patronizing. There were a butt load of games where Rafa got it wrong tactically and took ages to make a sub.

Everyone agrees that Kenny got it wrong today but then he didn't have enough choices really. Both first choice midfielders(Stevie and Raul) were out and we were 3 v 2 in midfield against Modric and VdV. It was always gonna be hard esp when none of the front four got into top gear.

The right crosses simply werent delivered for carroll to have an impact so really there was no point playing the guy.

Mate, Dirk was putting in 20+ a year in Holland. Suarez is a player but he doesn't seem the type to run on to downward headers and nick a goal; he's more likely to put it on Carroll's foot or head than poach goals off him at this point, IMO. What we really need is a midfielder getting into the box and latching onto balls.

              On point #2; agree.

pressing the ball without putting your foot in means that there's no point pressing. The whole point of pressing is to win back the ball and start a counter attack. If the player you are pressing doesnt think you're going to make a tackle or challenge for the ball wheres the danger ?

Barcelona players pressing involves the nearest player to the ball sprinting across to the player with the ball and putting him under pressure while others join in and win the ball back. They do that by the player either losing it or the barca players tackling / nicking the ball away.

Either way, tackles dont have to be full blooded, 100 miles an hour every time. Remember peter beardsley's little tackles, he used to run alongside players, slide in and nick the ball away.

If you dont tackle you dont compete, and to play football you first have to earn the right by competing in midfield, establishing a grip on the midfield and then playing your type of football.

The same mistake Roy did against City. Every manager make mistakes. It is frustrating because we know that we have the players to beat them if we get it tactically right.

The players know it, we know it and of course KK know it. It feels like we threw away the game. KK tried to correct it when he took Spearing off and moved Kuyt into a more free central position to help out in the middle.

Again, pressing is different from tackling to win a ball. When you press well, you deny your opponents the time to pass the ball and when they make a hurried pass, half the times it'll find us than his teammates. We do this a lot against ManUtd combined with tackling when needed.

It's not like Raul doesn't tackle at all. He sometimes chickens out which is understandable because not all players like tackling.

but like raul if you press without intent you dont get the ball. there's no threat to the player in posession.

i dont see the point. press to win the ball back, but dont press for the sake of pressing.

Wut? One player pressing makes no sense. You press in lines as a team denying time to your opponents and marking the nearest players that he could pass the ball to.

It seems to be the 'English way' to keep tackling crazily every time to win a ball. Makes no sense really. Smart players can always easily evade tackles and pass it before even the tackle is made.

Tackling is crucial in the english premier league because its the english way, your midfielders have to be competitive otherwise whats the point. you'll get pissed on and trampled all over.

look at every side in the epl, they're all got players who can put their foot in. christ weve had some of the best ones in the history of the game, there's players like essien, mikel, fletcher, diaby, song, palacios, sandro all doing a job to win the ball back by putting their foot in when they have to.

you cant just press without challenging for the ball.
