nobody likes to get pressed high, but the only way to deal with it is pass and move. just gotta make sure the passing and the movement is superior. you can buy yourself time that way.

or just lump it to the big lad

but teams will press us high and its more possible if its apparant that we struggle. Also if we want to win a EC then to beat barca we need to do it.

so we need better passing or movement to get round it.

so that will be addressed with more able players and more coaching of the players we have.

plus its possible it was just an off day

or more worryingly the first game of any pressure for a while (win it and 5th and europa league is ours) and shows a mental weakness

      i certainly dont know which

I'm not too dejected by today's result. I wanted to us to win but, with hindsight I really don't wanna play 20 matches on Sunday next season. How many of today's starting line up can, come August, expect to be in or line up for the first game of next season? About five I reckon.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

marsh, i honestly think our frighteningly long injury list finally caught up with us on a day when it coincidentally mattered. (although any previous day would have seen us not even getting into a position to fail today.)

meireles out of the side meant our best attacking midfielder of late was missed, and his movement with him. carroll wasn't fit, and we couldn't make it stick up front with him. suarez was taken out of the game by michael dawson. it's the sort of thing that can happen when you're missing 7 or so first team players, and kenny's done well to get us up to today in tact with the trouble we've had with fitness this season (together with the trouble we've had playing football this season, thank you roy).

Spurs looked good at Anfield 2day! Big result for them....piped a few down as well!

                Kenny on Webb:
"I think if you go back over the history, i think you'll find it's quite conclusive evidence there"

Basically calling Webb anti-Liverpool. Like it.

                  And more:

"I'm not here to sponsor the FA. It is unhelpful to everyone that we cannot express our true thoughts and it is even more disappointing that the officials get away scot-free without having to come in and explain their decisions. I think it is safer for me to leave it at that. We cannot legislate for refereeing mistakes but we could have been a greater help to ourselves if we had started the game better."

Some of the things that have been mentioned in this thread are just mental.

Kenny to get severe criticism, Raul being ****e, Suarez not being a goalscorer

The only kneejerk I can see myself agreeing with is the one that Big Andy holds our attacking play back, we seem to think that route one with him in the side is the best option, when I actually think he is deceivingly good on the floor, bit of a heavy first touch but IMO he hasn't been 100% for us yet, will reserve judgement for next season. We do need another striker in the transfer window though, I really don't think we can go wrong with Demba Ba, 2 more goals today and now West Ham are down could be available at a cut price, good be an excellent impact player.

Agree about Suarez' temper too, but he will learn to calm down, Torres was a bit fiesty when he first came too IIRC.
The times they are a changin'.

We missed Raul's subtlety and movement in the final third. We missed the fluidity in the final third which we saw in the previous two games. I thought both teams were evenly matched but Spurs managed to find the net twice - once due to a good strike and other was gifted to them by Webb.

I think this game shows that we could do with more match winners in the first team. We missed Gerrard and Raul today.

Everton kicked up a fuss and I don't think Clattenberg refereed their games after that derby. Every referee who goes to Old Trafford knows that if they displease Man United, their career takes a nose dive.

We need to kick up a fuss and ensure that Webb never officiates our game after this.

Maybe now we can get back to our rebuilding job and approach the next season without the smothering expectation of Kenny leading us to a title.
I think Champions League is a more sensible goal tbh.
                        so true.

If teams press you high up the pitch the logical thing is to go front to back and bypass them

Problem then is the forwards ability to hold the ball up whilst your midfielders get up and support them

The thing is I think Kenny is a lot cleverer than some people actually think

The make up of a Carroll/Suarez is very smart imo its supplementing that partnership that requires work in the summer

i think passing around them is better for a couple of reasons. mostly because pressing high takes a lot of energy, and if you move the ball well, and quickly enough it will tire the other team considerably-especially if they aren't getting any joy. it's demoralizing. also, it will get you a lot of space to work with as the game wares on because eventually they will learn that closing down your defenders isn't really working and they'll have to back the **** off and let you work.

Thats fair enough but it relies on an awful lot of your players being comfortable in possession
