Been reading a book called "Why England Lose," written by a sports economist and football writer. They found (looking over 30 years of data or something) that league finishing position is 90% based on total salary to players; not manager or player transfer fees.
I've never understood why people put so much store by this.
Surely it should come as no surprise that on average the best players get paid the most and on average the team which wins the league tends to have a lot of good players?
Our problem is we have have tons of players, many of whom weren't even playing for us last season.

It's to compare player salaries against the difference transfer spending and the manager make. What they found was that the manager doesn't make a huge difference, transfer fees make almost no difference, but player salaries make a massive difference.
