Too old, we should move on.
    Are we winning?

Thought so, love this site when you cant be arsed to use Google .

As much as I would love him too, I don't think there is a chance of Alonso coming back to us, not in the near future anyway. I think he will have a few more years at Madrid and then will finish his career at a mid-table Spanish team, he says all the right things in that interview but I think any chance of him coming back is minimal. It would take stupid money to prise him from the hands of Madrid, money I would rather spend on a Sanchez or Hazard, Xabi is a Liverpool legend, but there are other areas we need to strengthen.

I would say that the central midfield playmaker position is the most important position to strengthen.

Chelsea never replaced Ballack and Deco. Man U probably won the title thanks to that mistake by Chelsea. Suddenly they didn't had a playmaker.

Dortmund won the title in Germany mostly thanks to that they had the best playmaker in the league, Sahin.

Barcelona have two of the best playmakers around, Xavi and Iniesta.

Real have Xabi and now Sahin. Arsenal have Fabregas. Lazio got much better thanks to Hernanes. Lille have Hazard.

They cost a fortune to sign and that is very understandable.

They are very often the difference between challenging for the title or winning it.
I dont think anyone is arguing those points.

But the 'come and get me plea' comment, was way wide of the mark.

That is your opinion. If we want him after he won the title in Spain then we will get him. That is my opinion.

So how many fans will demand that we sign him after this season now when he made if perfectly clear that he would be prepared to join us if they win the title?

"With two young children - Jon, aged 3 - 'he's a Scouser, he was born in Liverpool, has the kit and I will raise him as a Liverpool fan' and Annie - aged 1 - 'she has just learnt to walk so I spend a lot of time running behind her' - to keep him busy away from the demands and pressures of top level football, it's clear Xabi is a man completely happy with his life."
Poor Xabi, outpaced by a one year old. He never was the quickest.

Maybe a bit strong, but not necessarily that wide of the mark.

Why now? We have new owners willing to spend money, a new manager who besides being a legend as brought back team cohesion, things are looking up.

And now he starts giving interviews to LFC.TV about how much he still loves us?

I'm at work so not read the interview yet, but just an inital takes based upon what's been said here.

And everyone else's opinion too mate

We may get him after he wins La Liga, but a) that wont be for a few years anyway and b) i think he'll stay there for a few years even if he DOES win it in the next year or 2.

A 'come and get me' plea tends to suggest more urgency than a 'come and get me, but wait til i've won La Liga, it might take a couple of years, but just put the kettle on in the meantime la' plea.

Maybe because he was speaking to LFC TV?

I'd love Xabi to come back to us, one of the best passing footballers in the game but he's not leaving Madrid for a while at best he'll be 31/32 before we could get him back, just don't see him happening.

                              Seriously, such a good footballer!

Xabi coming back to us is not going to happen IMO. He is turning 30 this year and waiting for a La Liga title, meaning he will most likely be 32-33 before that happens and coupled with our owners idea of almost exclusively investing in younger players with a resell value that is a no go unless we get him on a free. And at that time he will be at the end of his career, and may not be as attractive to get back.

If he returns it will be in some other capacity.
