Managers are offered bungs to sign players quite frequently - just ask George Graham

It wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if Ferguson took a portion of the transfer fee as part of the deal. As Lecter says, the player was available on a free transfer not long before. Why would they suddenly pay £7m for the useless pile of turd when they could have had him for free?

And how does he suddenly become worth £7m in such a short space of time?

I would even rather have Stevie G in his prime than Leo Messi, Maradona or Pele in their prime ffs!!
        Where do you start?
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

That begs the question of how you know.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

                    Harry's agent told him
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I don't know, but it's firmly my opinion. I have been watching him on & off the pitch since he broke through, as well as reading his interviews etc. Someone like Xabi would make a far better manager than Stevie I expect. Stevie's weaknessses as a player are in the traits that are required for good managers.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

You're probably right he won't make a good manager because most players don't. And I see what you mean about his weaknesses. I suspect he's more likely to be a Bryan Robson-type manager (i.e. all passion and general cluelessness) than a deep thinker.

But it's very hard to say I think, not least because people develop. Also he is seen as a leader and that counts for something, even though I'd agree his style of leadership isn't likely to translate well into management (see above).

Ultimately it all depends on what you mean by a good manager. I dislike Allardyce as much as anyone but he is a good manager by most standards. He's just not good enough for a top, top club, i.e. he's not one of the best in the world.

I suspect a lot depends on who he would have around him as coaches and who he would listen to. My fear would be that it would be Carragher and their shared preferences of the 'English' style of doing things would lead them to be at best a Hodgson/Kelly calibre management team.
