    Clash of the decades

Hypothetical question but have been watching a few of the old highlights on LFC TV showing clips from 70s and 80s teams and it got me wondering.

How do you think those all conquering teams would fair today with pristine pitches, limited physical contact and terrifying pace that we see on disply throughout the premiership today? Also bear in mind that, although quite fit, the diets and health regimes that we expect today were not as prolific in the past so fitness could be an issue.

All things being equal, do you think the 60s, 70s, 80s (I wont even mention the 90s!) or the noughties team would be the better team?

For me, I think our current levels of fitness and trickery might just shade it but then I wasnt fortunate enough to see much of the 'older' teams.

    Reasoned arguments welcomed...

Why are the old teams allowed to be judged on our flatter pitches limited physical contact and terrifying pace, but not allowed our modern day fitness regimes? To make this a better discussion you need to level the playing field
    Modifying post.

Hmm, its a fair point. I guess I was reacting more to the cliche that modern day players couldnt cope with the physical game of the past pondering whether the reverse would be true.

Without giving it too much more thought then, if we dropped the teams into a tournament as they are/were, who do you think would win based (a) on current referreeing/laws and (b) based on say the referreeing/laws of the 80s?

The modern teams would edge it fitness wise, and because of the game being played under the current rules. You might see a different result if the game were played under the rules of a previous era. Things like keepers being allowed to pick up back passes could negate fitness advantages by reducing the physical demands.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The modern teams would also edge it for me due to technology. Players who have "signature moves" can be analyzed by anyone and taught that signature move by use of slow-mo cameras etc. Players are getting better offensively and defensively due to technology IMO.
