If it was that great an idea, everyone would be doing it.

I'd rather our squad was entirely focused on PL performance - do well enough in that, and the financial rewards will automatically follow.

And the odd couple of million quid wont make much difference to FSG who, you yourself claim, could go and spend £200m net if they wanted to.

Agreed. But i suspect such games would only be desired if we took the first team out there, which is a definite no-no.

You do know about the new UEFA fair play financial rules? What I have said about FSG is that money isn't a problem for them and if the rules would allow it then they could spend £200m if they wanted to do it. I doubt that they will ever do it but they could do it if they want to IMO.

If enough money is being paid I think it's a good idea.

        I don't think 4 or 5 times though, maybe 2.

You would need to see how the schedule plays out, obviously you aint going to do it just before a game again the Mancs or something.

You won't necessarily need to play all your senior players.

Well given that FSG are so clued up, if your idea is such a bout of genius, i'm sure they will do it.

          We'll see, shall we?

            One more point.

The big clubs do it when they get time to do it.

It is an easy way to earn big money.

                Partially on topic:-

regarding the speculation that we may have agreed a deal for Mata with Valencia due to having a friendly with them at Anfield as part of the deal...

how often is this kind of thing done? I know it was done last year where Hernandez played 45 mins for Guadalajara and 45 mins for United...are there many other recent examples with fairly well known/popular players?

Man C played against Valencia last summer as part of the Silva deal.

Why lose the one advantage that having no European football gives us i.e focus by playing meaningless friendlies? Are we strapped for cash again?

complete focus on the league this season, no need for this crazy friendly idea.

I'd have thought if this was something that Valencia wanted because we'd done a deal for Mata the game would have been at their place rather than at Anfield.

Its a nice enough idea and would certainly swell the coffers. The only time I could see it working though is if we had a mid season break and everyone went on a training camp during the period or something.

i think clubs do this when there is a mid-season break - certainly Bayern Munich do and i think Madrid also might......

That's one of the reasons this mid-season break idea for england is a load of bollix.....because the clubs would just feck off to dubai or asia or the states and play a load of friendlies instead.....

getting back to the original point, i actually think it might not be a bad idea to get money in.......but it would have to be teams consisting of the likes of Brad Jones, Pacheco, Sterling, maybe Jay Spearing etc...... which wouldn't bring as much money in because it wouldnt be the 'real' liverpool......

another idea - do you know this whole 39th game idea - they should just make a "Premier League Cup" and play it all over the world - basically, its a one-off knock-out game - with 32 teams: 20 premier league teams and 12 guests........ the guests could be the likes of Celtic and Rangers, NY Red Bulls etc......

Round 1 = Just before season starts
Round 2 (last 16) = Some time in October
                            Round 3 (last 8) = X-mas time
Round 4 (semis) = Feb (maybe same weekend as carling cup final)
                            Final = April.......

With all games in neutral locations......like new york, LA, Australia, Asia, Dubai etc.....

The clubs would make a fortune..........

Wouldn't be a problem doing that in the middle of the season. Say four or five friendlies instead of the European games. We could probably earn at least £10m+. Money that later would be used to strengthen the team.

Clubs like Milan, Inter, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man U for example do that when they get the time to do it.

It is a great way to earn some extra big money.
If yesterday's performance after a trip to the far east is anything to go by, then I don't think this is a good idea at all, regardless of how much it makes.
