- Why play Johnson in a 4-5-1, but not a 4-4-2?
- Adam is not a left winger.
- No Gerrard in either line-up?
- Suarez can't really lead a line.

It's a nicely balanced team, except Suarez would probably have to drop pretty deep. I'm sure he would make a brilliant winger/wide player, but it would also be moving him away from the goal which I don't think is a good thing.Originally posted by el matador View Postthis is what i think the team will be next season.

I think that's our strongest first eleven at the moment. No space for Adam if Lucas and Gerrard are fit.

i think the days of playing 2 upfront have gone. the top teams nowadays plays with a structured midfield with one striker and 3 central players one of whom pulls the strings and links midfield to attack.
in the game against guandong (apologies for spelling) we played only one up front and three across the middle and i think thats what we will continue to do throughout the season.
but i can see at home against teams we should be beating he will get both suarez and downing much closer to carroll whereas away from home i can see those 2 or even kuyt tucking into the midfield to make a 5. the players we have mean that kenny could really play all of the formations from 442, to rafas 4231, the 433, the 451. there are a lot of options now for kenny especially going forward.
the top 5 attacking players as per the top 6
arsenal - van persie, walcott, arshavin, nasri, fabregas
utd - rooney, hernandez, nani, valencia, young
city - dzeko, tevez, silva, johnson, toure
chelsea - torres, drogba, malouda, kalou, anelka
spurs - bale, modric, crouch, lennon, van der vaart
liverpool - carroll, suarez, downing, gerrard, kuytLast edited by el matador; 14-07-11, 11:30 PM.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

In a 451 the midfield allows johnson more freedom to attack. width. whereas in a 442 personal preference to go with just one attacking fullback which i assume is the LB. either a new LB or johnson.Originally posted by Muddled View PostHmmn, a few points I'd pick up on:

Adam on the left side tucks in and allows the new LB to attack. width.
End of last season showed we play better without gerrard.
Personal opinion that suarez is better at link-up play compared to carol,so he gets my pick.

This season, so far none of our new players will have to adjust to a new league. We should for all intents hit the ground running. They know the pace and physical nature now, so it should be a good start.
We have plenty of good options in our front 6 players now, so im much more optimistic than I was 12 months ago. Then, I had us in a holding pattern until we got new owners. Feels good to be optimistic again.*Except Michael, who died.

I was thinking (dangerous, I know) about our sqaud for next season and I believe that Kenny and the management team have gone for a blueprint of being able to put out 2 teams that would be expected to beat most sides as wella s give the top sides a hell of a game. For example:
Team A
......................................reina....... ..............................
...........kelly............carra...........agger. ...........johnson......
...................................lucas.......... ..............................
...............gerrard............................ ...adam....................
.........Kuyt................................... ..........downing..........
...................................Suarez........ ................................
Team B
......................................Doni....... ..............................
...........Robinson............Skrtel...........?? ??. ...........Flanagan......
...................................Spearing....... ... ..............................
...............Henderson.......................... .. ...Aquilani....................
.........Meireles................................. .. . .........Maxi..........
...................................Carroll........ ................................
From this blueprint, I would say that although we're obviously looking at a left back, I wouldn't be surprised if we sign another central defender just to cover all angles. One that's a bit more capable than Kyriagkos. I like Kyriagkos but I wouldn't want him playing against top sides while the rest I think would do well (assuming Skrtel is over his dip in form). I also think it wouldn't be a bad idea to look at bringing in another DM too as if either Spearing or Lucas got injured I wouldn't want one or the other to have sole responsibility for this role.
The strength and depth of the squad is better than it's ever been IMO.

I know Kuyt's in there but doesn't it lack a bit of firepower. I would love to see a decent out and out striker on the bench. No?Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostLet's say for the sake of argument that was our line up. Options left on the bench would be:
Henderson
Kuyt
Aquilani
Meireles
Maxi
Pretty good no?
