I think you play your strongest players and they don't come much stronger than Gerrard and to a lesser extent, Johnson. They are key first teamers for me who are amongst the first names on the team sheet. I don't even think it matters what formation we play, they will both fit in and do the job that is asked of them.Originally posted by gentingfrmhell View PostIn a 451 the midfield allows johnson more freedom to attack. width. whereas in a 442 personal preference to go with just one attacking fullback which i assume is the LB. either a new LB or johnson.
Adam on the left side tucks in and allows the new LB to attack. width.
End of last season showed we play better without gerrard.
Personal opinion that suarez is better at link-up play compared to carol,so he gets my pick.
As for having Adam on the left, I can appreciate you are saying we would get the width from our fullbacks, but it would mean a highly congesting midfield - even more so when playing five.
Suarez is a livewire, he needs licence to roam across the front line, but not as the focal point. I think we would struggle as a team if he was our out-and-out striker; he defintely needs somone up there with him. It can also be argued that Carroll could link the play better, if Suarez was coming from deep or out wide.

Leaving Meireles out was actually a mistake as I put Kuyt in there twice. It's been fixed, cheersOriginally posted by Muddled View PostIndeed, with no room for Meireles (amongst others) in either of your teams, it goes to show the options we are now creating. Flanagan and Robinson are the wrong way round though if I was to be pedantic. Like you say though, we are in desperate need of a left-back.

I think an old head who knows where the goal is is never a bad thing to have in the squad but finding this player available is a different story. Similar to the Mancs signing Larrson for the season.Originally posted by hockin_monster View PostI know Kuyt's in there but doesn't it lack a bit of firepower. I would love to see a decent out and out striker on the bench. No?

I think it's a healthy problem that everyone seems to be having difficulty in selecting a first 11, too many good options is a few words that we haven't been used to in a long time, a god complaint & i'm sure Kenny is working on formations and setup etc
It will be interesting to see what way we line up when everyone is fit (well if that is ever the case). Still think we need a new LB & CB though, CF not so much IMO.

Insua could be used as a back up and Robinson is too young and inexperienced to be a regular starter as his age.
Look what happened to Insua when he was turned starter too soon.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
