I can see where you coming from (high wage bill cannot be taken lightly) but we tried that same approach last year and it didn't work.

Personally he is one of the few that we have in our squad that I'd like to keep cause he has something to offer but if he really wants to leave then I wouldn't stand in the way but I wouldn't go with a loan option unless we get guaranteed pre-agreed amount next year.
I'm not sure that the benefits (i.e. the ability to play an unhappy Aquilani) outweigh the disadvantages of paying his wages + some sort of fee. I'm a fan of Aquilani but it really makes little sense keeping him. We can't magic a fee up out of thin air an have to accept that he still carries a reputation as a crock and clubs know that we have to get rid of midfielder. Even if we are in the same position next year we are there with a saving of several £m.

I think a real concern this season is getting a manageable squad size that can form the backbone for a title challenge in the next few years. This season that probably means a/ getting a matchday squad together with options that Kenny is happy with and b/ shipping out players outside that no matter how in order to save money and give young players chances. At the minute we have a surfeit of midfielders and some have to go - having some strange pride in not letting a player go on loan seems to me to present a significant danger of cutting off our nose to spite our face.

one other difference with cesc and modric is that they are key players for the teams they are in.

Seriously the chances of this are very slim

As soon as one of our players is unhappy, the club seems to willingly bend over. If Aquilani is unhappy, fine. Make him available, but ****s sake... he's worth more to us here and unhappy than 900 ****ing thousand.

And if he goes there and plays well? Well we STILL don't see any benefit because we're locked into a 9 million pound agreement.

              Crazy.
Yep and we kept Torres when he wanted to go and he was just brilliant for the last 6 months of his Liverpool life

Cesc has been poor the last 12 months, Vidic wasnt genuinely wanting to leave just like Rooney all he wanted was a pay day

Of course we see the benefit we get the financial savings I mentioned above

Loan fee £900K plus £4.16 million in wages off the books for 1 season
Cost saving just over £5 million
                  Potential sale value £9 million
Total benefit of this deal to LFC (IF is goes through) £14 million

Cost of keeping player and selling next summer for £6 million
                  £4.16 million in wages
                  Sale Value £6 million
Total benefit of this deal to LFC = £1.84 million

Cost saving of loaning him and Fiorentina deal falling through £900K plus £4.16 million in wages is still £5 million
Your second option of keeping him has not factored any value he might bring as a player to LFC which makes it a pretty one sided comparison really. What if he were to stay, have a blinder of a season and we scrape back into the top 4?

Sorry - been away ....so is he off? Summary? Surely not on ****ing loan again?

So it's more than just paper talk? Or his gob****e agent telling porkies again?

Because the chances of that happening are slim to zero

IF he stays we'll have an extremely unhappy player who deosnt want to be here so the chances of him "having a blinder" are unlikely to say the least

We got 50 million for torres... its not quite the same is it. We sold torres on our terms. If Aquilani was sold, that's fair enough. This loan is bollocks. I'd rather he stay here and offer competition than save a few mil on his wages and bring in 900k.

I appreciate that you don't rate aquilani, but over 80% of us see enough in him to want him to stay. Especially when the alternative is a ****ing loan deal

Players respond in all sorts of ways. There's not a one size fits all reaction to not getting what you want. Take Adam for example. Take alonso.

Hes always behaved in a respectful and professional manner with us. I see no reason to think he would do otherwise if he doesn't get this loan move. Hes not even put in a tranfer request from what I've read!
