I thought he turned down Fiorentina because he didn't want a loan deal he wanted a permanent deal. He agreed to take a pay cut, IIRC it meant he would earn in 3 years with Fiorentina what he would earn in 2 years with us.

While I can understand that after last year he might be concerned that a loan with a view to a permanent deal might not work out again (as happened with Juventus). I would have thought, if he hates Liverpool/UK as much as Lecter says, he would have taken a chance on it rather than risk spending 6-12 months in a place he hates. The only way this makes sense to me is if he genuinely believed someone would come in with a permanent offer that would be acceptable to him and us, otherwise turning down Fiorentina makes no sense.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Just a shame Juve ****ed him over in trying to **** us over

A few months ago didnt Kenny mention out of the blue that Aquilani was coming back and would welcome him back - I think those ideas were dashed when he saw him again face to face and was told again he wanted away

I've no bitterness towards Aquilani his situation is understandable (from a humane point of view) and sadly we will no doubt get screwed on any deal
One reason for this confusion is actually Aquilani saying shortly after Juve pulled the plug that he is looking foward coming back and playing in England and of course his agent playing all possible angles time and time again.

All those statements planted a seed of doubt that the intentions to go back to Italy are not created entirely by Aquilani's alone.

The club and Aquilani have played a fairly nice PR exercise to be frank

They seem to be saying all the rights things to all the right people

Its clear his leaving has reached an impasse and I'd expect that Aquilani feels we should help facilitate his move by reducing our price further
And I suppose you think we should do that? Maybe we should just let him go for free eh?

Personally I think the Milan loan with permanent €6 million is too low

But I can see how the suits will think it is a good idea to get €6 million plus his wages off the book

I didnt think the Fiorentina deal was too low but it was a gamble (ie they might not take up the permanent option)

I do think he will go though and I'm sure the deal will not make good reading to those who actively want him to stay

If he's so desperate to leave, surely a transfer request is the done thing?

I know the quality we have faced hasnt been the best but if some of you cant see the guys skill and composure on the ball you havent got a clue about football.

If I was Kenny i would be pulling out all the stops to try and keep him and ship some of the other ****e out. A settled in and confident aquilani would be a force in our team.

The horrible thing is i think hes just had enough of the messing around and wants to go back to italy.

Hes already waived his right to loyalty bonuses / wages compensation

Which is really the only thing you would formally issue a transfer request for

I've never really been sure if that has any meaning - obviously it is a sign of intent but does it have any legal force? Currently both the club and players seem to be handling everything pretty well PR-wise, what advantage would a transfer request do? Lower the value we received, reduce compensation Aquilani might be due, nothing?

I'd love to see us take a firmer stance. Set a value and if that isn't matched, he doesn't go anywhere. Simple as that. 6 million euros... ****ing hell. That's a complete piss take. What is that, about 5 million pounds? Fabian Delph cost that much last season!

If he wants to leave, that's fine, but he needs to appreciate that we're not a frigging charity. Tell him he's staying until January and the best way to fulfil his wish is to perform for us - which to be fair, he has done since he's been back

I think there is legal bobbins around this sometimes.

For example, if a club sells a player against his wishes (i.e. he hasn't formally requested to leave so they are in effect terminating his contract) , they may have to pay up the rest of his contract.

If he states in writing that he wants to leave, he may waive that right.

I guess it varies from contract to contract, and may be one reason why transfers appear to take so long. Both in negotiating your way out of one club, and into the next.
                            Oh I don't know.

This goes against Kennys belief system

He only wants players who WANT to be here and WANT to play for the club.

Whilst that doesnt mean we will give him away for "nothing" I expect a compromise deal to be worked out to the "satisfaction" of all parties*
