This sort of result and team selection was bound to happen.

We need to put on a show to sell the garbage bric and bracs we dont need. That back fired.
We having a very dis-jointed pre season programme IMO.

We Fly off to Asia: one country to another, come back and play a game in Hull.
Fly off to Turkey. Come back then fly off to Norway.
Compare that to Utd's at the moment. All concentrated in one country, all grouped together.

Where dis-jointed and flying around too much (for commercial reasons). Should have had one Training camp and a couple of games.

This shop window stuff is bollocks really. No club is going to decide to buy a player based on a pre-season friendly. Unless maybe if they were considering a bid but thought the player was injured or something. We have a lot of highly paid ****e and we need to start offering to pay a % of wages to get shut of them, if we aren't already. Paying Joe Cole 50% of his salary and not having him play for us is money well spent.

Back in the Paisley days there was some horrendous pre-season results

The fact that we left our 3 purposeful signings at home should tell you enough

pre season results mean diddly other than attaining some form of fitness....we have signed players already proven with prem experience........it's the pre results which will count not pre-season

Better than paying his his full salary and not having him play for us as we are now anyway.

Top tip - try googling 'Copa America 2011' and you might find that assertion is slightly inaccurate.

Good stuff. In a similar vein, save money on sex-lines by phoning up the Samaritans and threatening to kill yourself unless they talk dirty.

                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

How many things from back in those days are still the case now?

                      Very different nowadays.

The point is, you get into a losing habit and it can carry over into the season - it happened the season we got dicked by Mainz and it'll happen again this year if we dont get our **** together soon.

I don't think it really mattered about last nights result. No Suarez, Lucas, Gerrard, Pepe, Downing, Adam or Carragher. Thats 7 first team players, and possibly Henderson too. So I wasn't too worried. I would be more worried if these players were playing and the fitness excuse was used.

Point is last night just re-inforced to us that we have players that cant cut it.

Saw the second half and was pretty appalled by some of the play. Thankfully it's 'only' pre season

                            Agreed mate.

The bottom line is we heard the same old comments such as "It's only a friendly" and "Friendlies are just about improving your fitness" the past two seasons and guess what happened? We've ended up getting off to a poor start because the first eleven didn't have enough time to gel together and implement the managers philosophy. Why we went over to Istanbul to put out a team like that I will never understand. Regardless of the fact the start of new season for Galatasary has changed (it shoudn't change a thing for us) we should still be looking to play our strongest team considering the fewer friendlies we have this season. We may as well have stayed at home and played Darlington.

As I said on another forum we need to hit the ground running from the get go and I am particularly concerned that by the time the Sunderland game comes around, our strongest eleven wouldn't have had enough minutes on the pitch to gel together and improve their fitness amongst other things. Those wanting to make excuses for Kenny better not moan if we start off the season slow once again.

Just to play devils advocate; if pre-season friendlies are for match minutes, confidence and results, why not play the Ring O'Bells, the Queens Head and Hull.

How bad was Joe Cole! That's a rhetorical question - he was ****ing dreadful! He's trying to play with a smile on his face, even when everything he touches turns to ****. He's desperate to do something good so he can build confidence, but he's making bad decision after bad decision. Shadow of his former self. Come on Arry, get involved.

I'm hoping the next preseason game is when we start playing our first team players to build understanding and (hopefully) form!
