He could well be playing for a move.

If we had Insua at Left back and Glen Johnson at RB it means we have two full backs who aren't exactly lauded for their defensive capabilities. That would leave us pretty exposed in my opinion especially with the amount of more attacking players in the midfield now. Lucas can't pick up all the pieces himself.

possibly, but the window doesn't close before the sunderlands game.

It's ironic, when he plays to a level that makes him an asset, it's because he wants to go - and when he had signed and was happy to be here, his performances were poor.

I'd love to see these stats because at no point at any time ever in the history of the universe has Insua been better at any aspect of Ashley Cole's game. Ever. Ever.

I don't think he was ever really poor. I thought he played well when he got chances to sit behind a lone striker, where his lack of physicality was hidden.

Does anyone really think he's a bad player? It's always been about his ability to adapt to this league and stay away from injury, for me.

Not sure if it was rust, or whether he just isnt made for the intensity of english football - and these performances in pre-season, whilst very impressive, still dont prove that he is.

We may as well start him against Sunderland and Bolton, possibly Arsenal away too - and then decide, based on that, whether he's cut out for it, or whether he should be sold before the window shuts.

Yeah well I bet Ashley Cole didnt get the runaround from Jobi Mcanuff if theyve ever crossed paths. He was once an excellent prospect, like a lot of others it didnt happen for him and for the last two years he's looked a liability whether it was for us or Galatasaray (on the rare occasions he got in the team there). He's crap.

He hadn't kicked a ball in 6 months or more when he arrived and then had to deal with the change of pace in England. He hasn't been giving a fair run in my opinion, many top players took at least a year to settle before showing what they could do.

It's a fair point about time to settle.

The fear is that, if his problem IS just that he's not suited to english football, then no time is likely to change that. And of course, the more transfer windows we keep him for, the less his value is when we eventually do sell.

Well if we're arguing about whether Henderson or Aquilani, Sterling or Downing, Spearing or Lucas then our midfield has some depth to it.

Shame our defence will have big stretched anuses this season.
