Appreciate that there may well have been issues elsewhere my friend, and I'm sure you understand we would love to prevent such issues further developing on these boards and spoiling the atmosphere for everyone else. I just don't feel response in kind ever really helps the situation, or helps isolate exactly what, where and with whom the problem lies.

    Peace
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
    Mine angry and defrauded young?

He really did try hard. I commend him for that.

But as you said, he just wasn't CONSISTENT enough, and consistency is the mark of a good defender. There were times when Traore had a great game - those great last ditch tackles with his long leg of his were a joy to behold. But then this would be followed by some terrible howlers.

I remember first watching him play during the 2000/01 season: One minute he was brilliant, and then the next minute terrible. I always thought that his consistency would improve with experience (especially having watched Carragher develop into one of the most consistent performers in the league)but that improvement has never materialized.

The Champions League Final pretty much summed up his game. First half - one of the most inept performances I have seen by a footballer. Second half - one of the best players on the field.

Djimi is a GREAT player, who can't head and more importantly can't concentrate for 90minutes. That's his ultimate downfall. He reminds me of Bramble in that regard.

Well now that's just a load of made-up bollox.

Could Mauricio 'face like a melted candle' Pellegrino even speak English?

And don't start giving me all this 'led by example', 'did his talking with his feet', 'the langauage is football' wank either.

Well considering that Carra cant speak English either, he's done a Great job in leading the defence

i think the fact that you dont even know if he could speak english, proves that you arn't really qualified to be speaking about this subject. He was bought in by Rafa to teach the squad...Rafa said this himself. He spoke english(badly), but he doesnt need to really tell people how to effectively zonal mark...Rafa can do that. Pelle was brought in to show them.

Yes he was as slow as anyone can get....but our defence improved greatly after his stint. Rafa even wanted him to stay on as a coach

Your probably going to argue our defence improved BECAUSE he left arn't you!

So do you not believe any of these things are possible?

I suspect that the fact that Rafa asked him to become the reserve coach implies that he must have done something right and I would guess at least could speak some English.

My memory of Pellegrino was that when he was in the side he was constantly pointing and shouting and organising and when he was in the side we always seemed better at corners. However particularly when paired with Hyypia it was easy for teams to take advantage of his lack of pace in open play.

Absolutely correct. 'Ryan', whoever he is, couldn't be more wrong.
