In terms of the football and the encouraging signs, this was much better than the ones mentioned IMO

Once they get fit, we'll be fine. I'm fuming with this because we played so well in the first half. To completely go off the boil over such a trivial aspect of the game is something I'll find hard to get over. Get your players match fit before the start of the season, ****s sake.

There's 37 games left. That's 111 points left to be won. The scum will be 2 points ahead of us tonight if they win. I am worried - indeed they will win the title tonight should they be victorious

Haven't seen the game yet, but it sounds like exactly as I expected. Giving Poulsen/Cole/Ngog all those preseason games was always gong to haunt us. Without Suarez starting I quietly expected us to lose 2-0. Bruce always starts the season strongly.

So, all in all, with players that have only just met each other and haven't got match fitness yet a 1-1 result was a point gained in my mind. One game more for these players to gel, I fancy us against Arsenal.

I didn't watch the game but if it's true the players are not totally fit then:
    • EITHER the fitness coaches are crap and lots of people on here could obviously do a better job;
    • OR It's nowhere near as simple as some people choose to believe.

It's the first game of the season, it's frustrating and a bit disappointing but that's all.

Just looked like headless chickens in the 2nd half.

Passes weren't connecting and lacked that pressure high up the pitch

We can take a bit out of first half if we can play like that for 90 mins I think we will do well. Charlie Adam should def have taken that pen and Richardson should have saw red.
    Very good point.

As soon as they scored we completely lost our composure and had no idea of how to connect or attack.

Raul coming in didn't make any difference whatsoever.

Adam tried and tried but we need one more creative player to tie thing up for Suarez and Carroll.

I think Downing will be a very good player for us and I personally like him more on the right as on more than occasion we had Suarez, Downing and Enrique getting in each other way.

Kenny also didn't correct the two against three in the middle problem soon enough. Bruce moved Larsson more into a central position and they owned the central midfield after that.

Bruce won the tactical battle against Kenny today
    And then Jeebus wept.

Come on Arn. Who cares? It's ****ing Sunderland. Had Flanno been solid, we'd have kept it under wraps. They did not own the midfield. We were pretty slow in general in teh second half,

He was ok, I still don't think he offers enough personally. I thought Adam and Downing did well first half, both were poor second half and I still can't figure out what Henderson actually does. I thought we were extremely 1 dimensional in attack for a the second half.

midfield got bossed in second half, although fatigue looked like a major factor IMO, especially with Lucas.
