Opinion on Carroll is divided mate. You've just got to accept that. No-one said he's an a...hole or anything , just questioning weather he's good enough and McD merely said his 1st touch needs to be improved.
Now play nicely alright
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

No you're wrong, we were **** and were lucky not to lose 10-0, Lucas was his usual poor self and Andy Carroll is the second coming of Sean Dundee!!!Originally posted by Cormack74 View PostOnly just seen the game.
Couldn't believe how comfortable we looked.
Whether we could have stepped up a gear if needed I'm not sure but for the most part IMO we were excellent.

I was unable to watch the whole game on Saturday due as I was away on familiy duties
, but have to say that it was a fantastic result (and I won a bit on it as well :P).
From the MOTD highlights, it looks to me like we played very well away against a strong Arsenal team. Can't believe that so much moaning can be done over a 2-0 away win at the Emirates, where we have the lion share of possession, have the most shot on goals and keeps one of the strongest attacking sides from scoring ?!?!?
I mean ffs., every single one of us would before the game have been thrilled with a two-nil victory over one of our strongest competitors, who despite selling Fabregas still have Arshavin, Van Persie, Nasri, Walcott and a handfull of other very good players in their team and is a stong . Thinking about it, we would probably be happy/satisfied with a 2-0 away win against just about any team in the league.
IMO some people have to narrow a focus on Carroll's role in our team. He is not just there to score goals (although it obviously is one of his important roles), but he is a passing station to lay off balls, and hold up balls from the long balls and hoofing from the back at times. He is a supporting target man, not an all out goal scorer.
4 points from the first two games is a fine tally IMO and shows we are still moving in the right direction.
I'm buzzing about the win on Saturday, and honestly if you can't enjoy a win away against Arsenal it's going to be one long miserable season!

It's just an expression which I would have thought is relatively widespread amongst most football fans, certainly any I talk to.
Could have easily just said the 'first touch of a baby elephant'......I would think it's abundantly clear what the context is, and certainly the rest of that post made it clear."I will make the boys feel your support"

Not totally convinced by that - defining features of Gascoignes play were dribbling and acceleration neither of which really feature in Adams play. Tactically the role he occupies is much closer to where Alonso played for us. I think the reason you shy away from the comparison is because he is so much worse at all of the things he would have to do to excel in that role. On the other hand it took Alonso some time to really nail how to play the role in the PL and he is one of the best players in the world.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostFor the first time ever yesterday, Jamie Redknapp made a comparison that I kind of agreed with. Said Adam reminded him of Gascoigne, and I think that's a much better comparison than Xabi Alonso. Obviously not in Gascoigne's class but he has a bit of Gazza about the way he plays. Good start for Charlie."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

bloody ball ache
- we play saturday and by time i get online to post monday morning theres over 500 posts...
well **** it.
Really pleased with the result - well deserved, we played solid without being outstanding.
We looked like we still had another gear to try and find and if we get gerrard fit it'll be very excting times.
Kelly and Enrique were outstanding all game....Enrique clear man of the match - great signing
yeah i know Arsenal had a weakened side and it was our best chance in years to win there....the important thing is we did....we got the win...early on in the season away to one of the toughest away games! - it would have been so frustrating to have not won especially after pretty much being comfortable for most of the game.
Frimpong is a dickhead and was looking to get sent off from the word go. Arsenal need to spend some money and get 3 or 4 decent players in fast.i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

loving reading some of the posts in the pre match thread before the game -"no suarez!! **** we'll be hoofing the ball all game" - "tactics for this game just gonna be hoof to carroll from carra and agger" ****ign laughable. oh ye of little faith in kenny and LFC.
on the game itslf, i was very impressed with the closing down of our midfield and the work rate to try spreading the play to all areas of the pitch.
adam played well again and once he finds his feet in the team proper he'll be a proper 6 million bragain.
henderson still got a bit to do to improve his game but i was impressed with his work ethic. a few passes went astray but i though he did better than against sunderland. maybe the price tag still bothering him but no doubt he settle soon.
enrique was boss again. what a bargain we got.
carroll needs to improve his first touch on the deck. in the air he was in a good battle with vermaelen (?) and i reckon he just lost out but i was impressed with his willingness to try and get the ball down and play.
agger - please god stay fit this year because your composure at the back along with you footballing ability to bring the ball out of defense is essential.
a thoroughly deserved victory against a slightly (they still had nasri, van winkle, arshavin, vermaelen etc..) weakened team. bring on bolton.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Yeah - definitely a work in progress but I expect him to get steadily better. Seems to go to head a ball way too early though? Got nothing out of the ref again on Saturday. Vermaelen went over the top of him a couple of times and nothing.. How Arshavin wasn't flagged as fouling in teh build up to that RVP chance is beyond me - effing officials are getting worse.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Post
