You say that as if Internet discussion is a process geared towards finding a truth. Arguing agains a point or opinion is one thing, tryig to use measures to establish the likelihood of an opinion being true is pretty futile, especially on a subject without much in the way of objectivity like football.

Maybe I'm just losing interest, I don't really know.

      Are we winning?

Just watched the game for the first time.

We did very well IMO. If only Suarez was as clinical as he is creative - but I think that will come, and when it does - God help the opposition!

Thanks for the game once again Mostar - next time, lets have it in HD!

Hmm, fair point. I don't think we need to go so far as setting up some kind of quest for the ultimate truth as that's an extreme philosophical position. However if we pull back from that a little:

I suppose I don't see any reason for swapping opinions just for the sake of it. If it doesn't further one's own understanding of the world then it seems futile to me.

I can see why it can be worth doing in the real world, with people you know and have to/want to get along with...whoops, maybe better not go further down that route.

However I do think if people are going to evaluate others' arguments then they are already going down the line of looking for, if not an ultimate truth, then at least a deeper appreciation or understanding of why something is happening.

If it's just "I think this" answered by "Well, I think that" then OK but personally I don't find that remotely interesting or enlightening.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

So come off it, you know about arguments from inference as well as anybody. If you have an alternative interpretation (I'm sure there are some) as to why Dalglish is picking him then I'd be interested to hear it. If it's simply the old chestnut of "I could be right and Kenny could be wrong because he's not perfect" then thanks but I reckon his chances of being right are significantly higher than yours (or mine or anyone else's on here).
You think that then. I'm pretty sure I am not the only one who thinks Downing's performances haven't been good enough recently.

Sure, fine. Of course that's not a weak argument you have there. It's no argument whatsoever. But you're welcome to your opinion, old boy.

But as Craig suggests, "good enough" (or not) involves knowledge of what is required of him. We'll know if he's been playing satisfactorily if he gets picked for the next game.

I never said that was a good argument, I just can't be arsed any more.

I've given Adam some stick so it's only right I give him praise today. I fancied him to have a good game due to Hodgson's teams never pressing and sure enough he had a good game. Much more economical with the ball. Him and Lucas ran the show.

Imperative we beat Swansea to go into two tough games.
I thought Lucas was the difference maker yesterday and he truly controlled the midfield offensively and defensively.

I am not sure that I agree on Adam though.

His defending is awful and any decent teams would take advantage of that weaknesses in his game.

Watch this short sequence below that I put together (youtube keeps blocking my videos ) and just pay attention to Adam.

His passing was little bit better but imo it wasn't great. Too many times yesterday he raised his hand to apologize to his teammates for the poor pass.

That said, he is still adjusting and imo he can play much better.

Yep it's easier to comment on other people's than think of one of your own.

I cba bothered either. Kennel's point about the point of arguing is interesting though.

I think the answer is, there isn't one.

                        Let's leave it.

                          I can, as I said, I can't be arsed.

What does worry me is that we appeared to only have 4 shots on target yesterday.

And what doesn't worry me about any of it is we won. But then I gave up worrying about football years ago because it's not important.
