A problem with this is that young players usually start to moan if they don't play in the first team early enough.

A star like Sterling know that he would get playing time in the PL at another club so he may decide that he want out.

It will probably not be a problem this season but what about next one?

If you want to keep your best youngsters then you must also give them at least a place on the bench.

I think Sterling will move on if he don't get a place on the bench in most league games next season. It is a must that he start to play competitive games sooner rather than later.

Other clubs will start offering him playing time. Will he then be happy to wait or move on?

Arn, Sterling is not a star he's far from being one at the moment, he has a lot of potential but thats what it is -potential.

He's not even 17 yet, there is plenty of time for him to develop still and if he's got half a brain on him he'll know himself he's not ready yet to play 1st team football and the way he's being handled is right for him and the club.

The answer is the "midgets". It is more important to have great game intelligence, skill and vision than being strong.

I really think that star is an exaggeration, but that said I do think that he needs to start getting games in the sort of time frame you talk about. The question is how best to arrange that and keep him having access to the standard of coaching we want him to have.

Personally I think January (or ideally just after for the Championship) is the time to think about loans - you have some idea where teams are in the league and the type of football they play but the high pressure of the end of the season is not yet there. Loaning players then allows us to a/ keep coaching him for at least half of the season and b/ maximise his chances of playing at the team he is loaned to.

I would loan him out to a club in the Dutch league. They are great taking care of players at his age.

Is Sterling not still at school?

This is a 17 year old lad, a kid, and you want to pack him off to Holland. He's fine where he is right now, still has a lot to learn & the best place for that is with the coaches at Liverpool & surrounded by his family.

How many 17 year olds still go to school?

Dunno, how many don't drop out after 5th year? I'm nearly 100% sure he's kept on with his studies. Can't remember where I seen it.

He's 17 in about a month - according to this he would have already finished studies this summer unless he's kept going - which is surely unlikely?
